Optimum Gloss Coat Beading

I recently washed my car for the first time since using Gloss Coat. I was kind of surprised the beading wasn't better. Especially on the doors. I only put one coat and I think i did really light as i only used 3 ounces on a Porsche 911. Should I put another coat on? If so, do I need to do a alcohol wipe first or can I just apply it? Does the alcohol remove the first layer.
 
Yes do another layer, yes do an IPA wipe, and no IPA will not remove a coating, just wax and polish residue, etc.
 
What soap did you use and how long has it been since applying it? It might be contaminated - I recently rewashed my application of Gloss Coat with some Iron X soap and Reset and it cleaned it extremely well and now it beads like it did the day I applied it.
 
You cant just put on an another coat if the first coat has cured - it wont adhere like everything else..
You can only put on another coat within a certain timeframe after the 1st coat..

I just looked this up at the Optimum website and it says you can add more coats but of course, you would want the paint to be really clean before you do this ...

Have you put anything else on the car since you installed the gloss coat ? How long ago did you do this ?

The coating/s will get dirty and then not act like you want them to do - but - they are still there protecting your paint..
Washing with CarPro Reset really helps get my Optimum coating clean again, and I hardly ever do anything to it..

You cant wash your car here in California anyway, so its really been a challenge here to do this..

I think you need to polish it and Id use one of optimums polishes and then re apply another coat or 2 one right after the other.

You will need another tube. If you have a local Autopian perhaps get some hands on advice.
 
If it were me, I'd hit it with some finishing polish first, then IPA wipedown before applying a thick coat. Don't be shy with Gloss-Coat. It levels down great and gives you plenty of time. Try using a CarPro Suede applicator to stop the coating from being absorbed into a foam applicator and inject the paint directly with the Gloss-Coat then spread it out in a cross hatch pattern (alternating horizontal and vertical passes). I like to use the CarPro Suede MF towels for buffing down the high spots too. The low nap and super soft suede does a great job while not removing too much of the coating before it cures.
 
It's been a month but the car hasn't been driven much. I think I'll a IPA wipedown and then put on another thick coat.

This is what I would do as well. The coating has fully cured and I would want to make sure I wasn't coating on top of any new swirls or marring.

Not following your thought process.

Why is your 1st suggestion to polish off the coating?

OP used 3cc on the 1st application; the syringe contains 10cc...why would he need an additional quantity of GC to apply two layers?
 
What shampoo did you use?

Was the beading poor on the initial wetting of the car or after you had washed and rinsed?


IPA wipedown will not remove your initial coat.

I would try Iron-X, instead of jumping rich into polishing it off. Maybe the paint is just a little contaminated?


What did you do to prepare the paint for the 1st coating application?
 
My idea is to get any and all environmental contaminate and micro marring out, and the optimum polishes are gloss coat friendly. I light polish won't remove all the first cost but you need to clean it and rough it up or it won't stick since its been so long.

If you call optimum I believe you will get similar advice. Try it , call them.

I don't think 7mls is enough for 2 good coats. It will be close but after you do all that prep do you really want to run short.
