Review - Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Dressing

The Guz

Mike
Thanks to the Autopia facebook giveaway, I received a 64 oz bottle of Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Dressing Gel. I have enough tire gel to last me awhile. I decided to give it a shot over the weekend as I opted to give the car a traditional 2 bucket rather than a rinseless since it was a bit dirtier with the drizzle storms that passed through recently.

I removed the previous tire gel with Meguiar's D143. The previous tire gel was Pinnacle Black Onyx (newest forumla). By the way this is a great product. I was able to get a month out of it on 2 coats. I do recommend this one.

Up next was Blackfire which can be picked up here

Blackfire Long Lasting Tire Gel

The first thing I noticed when I opened it, is that it has a great smell. I would say a candy like scent to it. It's a pinkish color. It is a thinner consistency than Pinnacle Black Onyx and Meguiar's D163 Tire & Trim Gel which I typically alternate between. Pretty similar to the consistency of the Wolfgang tire gel. So it was a little more runny on the applicator. It spread out really easily. A little goes a long way. It gives a black finish that is not to glossy. I let it sit on the tires for 30 min while I got ready to leave for work and then did a light buff to remove any excess product just be sure prior to leaving. It was dry by that time. It did not sling. It actually dried fairly quickly after applying it and going around the car.

I only applied 1 coat on the tires.

I applied it with a Lake Country tire applicator similar to the blue applicator shown in this photo. I put a thin bead down the center of the applicator and folded the applicator onto itself to get the product spread out onto the pad evenly and not run off the applicator since this is a little thinner than the other gels I have used.

Not the best 50/50 but I hope it gets the idea across as to how it appears on the tire.

Here's a close up of the tire with nothing on it.

Here;s the close up with 1 coat of blackfire tire shine.

Here's another tire fully coated in Blackfire tire shine.

I took this one the same day after I was leaving work.

This is from 2 days after initial application with the sun shining on it prior to sunset leaving the office.

If someone is looking for a tire gel that gives a black look with not a lot of shine then this would be a good choice. I can't comment on durability just yet but I expect it to be like any typical water based tire gel of about 2-3 weeks. Pick up a bottle or pick up a sample with your next order and give it a try.

Thanks for the review, Guz! Like you, Black Onxy is one of my favorite tire dressings - I'll be interested to hear how BF Total Eclipse holds up in comparison to BO.

2-3 weeks is about right depending on weather. It will last through a couple rains (tire will look matte, but still a good black color). You can layer 2 coats @ 5 minutes apart for a semi-gloss shine and probably some extra durability. A little goes a long way...I've had my 16 oz. bottle for 3 years and have refilled with the 2 oz. free samples maybe 8 times and my bottle is currently almost full. I don't reapply after every wash though, it just depends how dirty the tires are. I have also used it on matte trim like pillar garnish and mirror housings (before BF TTTS came out). That lasted maybe 1 month with proper washing. I always recommend to anyone who asks for a tire gel suggestion.

I will be sure to post up some feedback.

Well if it's one thing that I don't have to worry about it rain due to the drought here. But I will give 2 coats a try after this runs it's course.

Quick follow up to this as well. With 1 coat I ended up getting to the 2 week period and I ended up applying another coat on top of it. There was some rain within this time frame as well. I will be giving 2 coats a shot next time.
