Fraud

PA DETAILER

DETAILED TODAY?
Well got the call a few min ago you never want to get. It was bank. Did you charge $138 at a sunoco in montgomery PA? Ahhh...NO! Fraud. They closed the debit card and told me to contact my bank. Called the 1 800 number on the back and talked to doug. Yea, and there was another one at another sunoco for $138.50! He told me its closed and will issue a new card. And send some paper work out i have to do. Cant figure out where it happened? Card reader no doubt.

1. pumped gas at sheetz last night. paid at pump.
2. pizza today at pappys. Same hostess. She took the card as usuall. Then gave it back. maybe here?
3. supermarket. paid at terminal.
4. get go some things. paid inside on terminal.

No one was around me at these places??

Glad they caught it that quick!! He also said yea that amount is missing, but we issue you a credit for the amount missing. However that works? First time this has happend to me. Well at least the partys over for the crooks!

I had the same thing happen to me. I paid at a supermarket terminal and that's where it happened. I contacted the bank and they sent me over a form that I filled out and dropped it off at the bank. They gave me a new card, put a watch on my old one and credited my account. It was no where near the amount you had.

PA Amigo -
Sorry this had to happen to you.. It sucks..

Not long ago, I logged into my bank and saw a charge for over $500 at a Sports Equipment Store in Germany !!!!
Of course, I did not do that -
Had to do what you did, they killed the credit card and a few weeks later, killed my debit card... Now this really sucked...

I have since gone into my bank cards on line and turned on a lot of Notifications that tell me pretty darn quick when I use my card and how much was charged at where..
I can also set limits and then I will get the notification.. I set them low, so I would get all notifications...
Its kind of a pain, but every morning as I read and delete these bank notifications, Im glad that at least one of us is watching my banco account..

Someone told me that gas stations are really bad at having bogus card readers on their pumps..
I have to wonder - How can this happen ??? Isnt anyone watching from inside the dang gas station store??
Dont they have cameras ?
Dont they go out and look at their pumps every day and notice something else on their card readers??

Perhaps they are in on the scam???
Good luck with your task of now going to all the people who know and use your card like Amazon, for example and changing the card nbr and expiration date..

My daughter had this happen to her last week. She thinks she got burned on the Sally's Beauty Supply ID theft.

It sucks, happened to me about 3 years ago.

It was on a small road trip, i just pumped gas and ate at Subway. Thankfully it was my credit card ,i rarely use debit and i honestly cannot remember the last time I did since my bank is so good at catching fraud and i'm always checking my CC transactions at least a few times every week. I've heard/read that people will tamper with the Gas pump debit/credit machines by swapping the keypad or something like that so that they can steal your info.

I've never had to fill out any forms(maybe because it was a credit card) , they just called me within 15-24 hrs and sent me a new card.

Just happened to me two weeks ago on a Macy's card I haven't used in months. Found a charge to Drugstore.com when I got this monthly statement for not even using the card. FRUSTRATING !!!

Happened last month here placing an order with Vega. My card was declined. After hanging up the phone I noticed texts from my cc company alerting me of possible fraud

Wonder if they weren't trying to save me from myself

:swirly:

My new debit card from BOA and AMEX card have a little RF chip for "tapping" to pay. The data stored on them is easily picked up by an RF scanner. Also, your card info could have been picked up by an employee at the pizza joint. Simply gets swiped in a magnetic reader that stores the information, then they burn it onto another card with a magnetic strip; hotel room keys for example. Better off paying with cash as a precaution.

I've seen a documentary in Netflix( i believe an episode of "America's Underground" or something like that) where they spend a day or so with a CC Thief, and it is SO easy to get your info stolen. Thieves have connections at restaurants and retail places and these guys will travel from state to state doing this , use your card a hand full of times then switch to another victim so it's hard to track them down cause they're always on the move.

For the past few years banks and credit card companies have been putting wireless pay chips in their cards so you can just tap to pay (no PIN).

The only down side is if you lose your wallet but I got that under control because mine says "Bad Ass" on it (j/k but it is stingray leather) and it has the PIN number written down 3 times incorrectly (LOL).

Never been scamed yet ;)

Except to get money out of the bank's ATM, I do not use my debit card. It is a straight shot to your checking account.

far as lottery tickets, I think most, if not all, states wont allow you to buy them with a credit card. so I doubt it was that. bottom line: these days, it doesn't matter what precautions you take, scammers and hackers have a way to defeat any and all security measures. if they can tap into the White House security system and the Presidents emails, they can easily get into your stuff, no question. I had a guy going around using my credit info at new car dealerships several years ago, trying to buy a car. I didn't even know it until a few years later when I pulled my credit report just for fun. didn't even do anything about it, as it had been a few years prior at that point.

That sucks Dave. Had it happen to me too awhile ago. A few small charges on the computer, I use pay pal, and won't buy just anything from anybody on line either. Had to fill out a police report. Bounced a credit card payment. What a pain.
