FK1000p topped over Zaino Z2 pro

I currently have 3 coats of Z2 on my silver Lexus and have been using Zaino for years. I like the appearance and slickness of the Z2 but have been reading about all the etching issues with Zaino. Personally, I have never experience the bird bomb etching or water etching, although it's probably because the car is garaged every night and I usually wipe off any bird bombs as soon as I can. I also use Z6 and Z8 for upkeep.

Anyways, I've been reading great things about FK1000p and just ordered a can along with FK425. The question is can I just top the Fk1000p over the existing Z2 and if I want to later go back to Zaino, can I add Z2 on top of the FK1000p. Basically, are they compatible? Otherwise if I like the FK1000p, I will then add another layer of FK1000p going forward. How many layers of FK1000p can I place before it is of no benefit on looks or protection.

I top ZAIO with FK1000P and that combo works great. Never tried it over Z2 though.

FK1000P doesn't seem to be as picky about what it'll bond to as I would've expected, but this might be a YMMV thing. I'd try a small area that you can inspect really well and just see if it works.

I'd be a little surprised if the Z2 bonds to the FK1000P, but what do I know from Z2?

I *would* be utterly shocked if the FK1000P doesn't out-protect the Zaino though. As for the look...eh, it's eye of the beholder stuff. I myself don't care for the Zaino look (one of the few LSPs I can often ID in real life) but I do like FK1000P *on certain colors* (and/but not on other colors).

Accumulator, wouldn't ZAIO be pretty much the same formulation as Z2 other than the abrasive added for cleaning. So if FK1000p works with ZAIO, then it would possibly also work with Z2. Has anyone tried this?

this is the reason I want to use FK1000p, but I just don't want to strip the Zaino and start over.

Of course starting over with the FK1000p would only involve 2 coats about a week apart--not the multiple coats of Z.

If DG and Zaino are indeed very similar as many have suspected, then I will try topping my Z2 with FK1000p. So 2 layers of FK1000p is all I need? Also, I should wait at least a couple of days between layers?

Hope it works OK, it'll be good to know one way or the other.

So 2 layers of FK1000p is all I need? {/quote]

That works for me, but I do referesh it before I notice any change in beading/etc. just to be on the safe side.

Also, I should wait at least a couple of days between layers?

I do because I've had pseudo-holograms when I didn't. Ron Ketcham suggested that I must've botched things up somehow, but I gotta stick with recommending Accumulator-proof approaches ;)

So I just finished applying FK1000P over Z2Pro after claying using FK425 ( I diluted with distilled water since it feels a bit viscous). The result was pretty good, the appearance is as if there is a thick layer of brand new clear coat over the paint. In my garage next to another silver car with Z2pro, the FK1000P actually gives a wetter look although the Z2pro seems to have a bit more pop. Overall, very pleased with the result. I will see how well it last on top of the Z2Pro. Planning on placing another layer tomorrow or next week. Btw, I was wondering if DG921 is ok to use as a quick detailer in between Fk1000P layers. I actually like it better than FK425, and as much as Z6.

Looks like I'll be using Fk1000P for my daily driver that's mainly parked outside. I'm switching from Zaino because of the bird bombs and Fk1000P durability.

921 should be fine
