Hey,

Never did the formal introduction but I'm Paul from sunny Florida!

I originally had an A4 3.2 but have now upgraded to bum bah buh!!!

A 2014 S4!

Knowing I would be moving to Miami (changing schools) it was time for an upgrade.

On the other hand...

Since I was going to be commuting a lot as I transition this summer I coated my rims with BF Crystal Coat (Thanks Ray)

As one can see there is very little break dust from two weeks (1,200 miles) of driving. Plus the barrels are amazingly shiny!

I was going to put in some work this weekend and polish das auto with the Rupes 21 (thanks again Ray) and coat the whole car; however, I need some help...

It's a bit hard to see but the "cloudiness on the rim" is that from a high point in the coating orrrr the clear coat of the rim is kaput? (recommendations?)

Just thought I should do a formal introduction since I've been a lurker and have enjoyed (and will continue to) my time on this forum!

Thanks,

Paul

Try some finish polish on a mf cloth. Or some medium polish followed by some finish polish. If it's coating it will clean off. I could also be dirt under the coating and the above will clear that up as well.

Great car, just be prepared for an absurd amount of brake dust, these brakes generate so much dust from the semi-metallic pads, I'm planning on replacing my pads to ceramic (asap).

Yeah I was going to attempt some polishing this weekend, it's just these are the smallest gaps ever! RIP fingers lol

OMG you're telling me, the first week I drove it my rims were practically black... Thankfully coated wheels clean up really well.

I've had 4 Audis and they are all great cars BUT....worst brake dust of any vehicle(s) I've owned. I would definitely use one of the wheel coatings to help with the cleaning. Enjoy, they are a blast to drive.

Had the same issue on my SRT. I switched pads from OEM Brembo's to after mark Stop Tech's. I'd go as far as to say they produce 90% less dust and have no squeal. The Brembo's on the other hand, sound like a freight train stopping, I had ~60% of the pads left when I swaped mine out.

Might want to check if stop tech makes Street Pro pads (low dust) for the S4 calipers.

Don't let the low price fool you these pads perform on par with the $500+ Brembo pads I had before without any of the negatives, I have over 20k on the Stop Tech's without issue and I race my Jeep and push the breaks HARD.

To get into that spot you could wrap a MF towel around a chopstick or wooden dowel.

I have akebono pads on both of my audis and the do make a big difference.

Note that if you switch to ceramic pads, you'll only need an iron targeting wheel cleaner once in a while, car soap or mild wheel cleaners will work just fine.

Thanks for the great ideas dudes! I'm gonna try the mf on a chopstick later today...

Anyone think a Dynacone-esque polishing tool would work on clear-coated wheels? The Powerball for paint is just too massive!

Yeah on the A4 I had breakdust was pretty horrendous but is had the pie plate rims so cleaning wasn't a real bother (most of the time).

Since these wheels are so intricate cleaning would've been a pain so I threw a coating on em asap lol!
