Polish Angel Presto (odd lady indeed)

I like spray waxes, but more so, I like QD's that double as spray waxes. If you're in my boat, I like all the ones you probably do: FK425, PB QD+, CG V7, etc.
Enter Polish Angel Presto: It calls itself a QD, but is much more like a spray wax than anything I've ever used. Here's some claims from the manufacturer:

  • UNIQUE! Extracted & reduced Carnauba (5%)
  • Durability of 4 to 6 months
  • Creates a high gloss finish
  • Will not strip the sealed layer
  • Highly water-repellent layer of polymers that blah blah .... wait ... Durability of 4 to 6 months ??

I take that claim with the typical grains of salt, and also think it might be due to this other claim...
  • Dedicated maintenance spray for Master Sealant

OK, so they might mean that the combination of Master Sealant and upkeep with Presto results in durability of 4 to 6 months. We'll have to wait and see, or be informed by PA or one of their many fans.

Firstly, this stuff is expensive. We expect sample sizes to not represent value, however, at $5 per ounce, the 100ml is prohibitively expensive. You can buy 279 ounces of FK425 in it's place. In the more traditional 16.9oz version (500ml), it's still $2.30/oz. That's 4.8X more expensive than FK425. Then there's shipping from Germany where it is hand-made to order, literally. This stuff better be good, right? Well, it is! At the same time, it's downright goofy.

The most shockingly unique thing about Presto is the turbidity. I had to do some research to make sure my sample was typical. It is. Lets quickly run through these pictures, which tell a lot of the story, good and goofy.

Wax floating around. It has a medium solvent smell, like Collinite, with a slight masking scent.

It's thick, with more turbidity than any spray product I have used.

The thickness and turbidity make this stuff difficult to spray. The trigger is well constructed and plenty big, thank goodness.
It comes out of the bottle in a splattering pattern, as seen here.

But amazingly, it flashes quickly! For all of it's quirkiness insofar as form, it's function is awesome.
It's actually easier to use (once it's out of the sprayer) than FK425 or PB QD+. This amazed me.

Less impressive are the towel stains. Not surprising.

The look was top notch. I think it even has minor filling. However, it didn't hamper reflections. Sorry, no outside pics yet.

So .... what looked like cherry cough syrup with chunks of wax floating in it ended up being easy to use. No streaking, and no issues with smear or hazing. I had my plush edgeless towel ready as my "drying" towel after smearing this on, but it wasn't necessary. It may be a hard squeeze on the trigger, and it may not aerosolize like you'd like, but once this angel is out of the bottle, it grants your wishes.

The Pro's and Cons of this are easy:

Pros
Performance, insofar as appearance.
High claimed longevity, and due to containing copious amount of wax, it should be a very good LSP extender.

Cons
Exorbitantly expensive when you consider there are products 1/4th the price that look as good.

This is my favorite detailer. Shame I'll never buy it.

We're closing in on you Angel Presto, at 1/4th the price!

Have you noticed any attraction to dust? Or does it seem anti static?

I'll take note of those attributes and update tomorrow. I detailed the whole car, but only the hood and front fenders got the Presto, so I should be able to make a comparison.

My roof got a new application of Sonus SFX-4 and it's attracting bird feathers. Strange but true,

So out of that nice collection you have their, what would be your top 3 (besides Polish Angel)?

So today the car picked up a good bit of dust while parked at work, and the Polish Angel Presto panel fared no better than other panels. However, in the garage this morning, I noted that my newly LSP'd roof had more debris on it (little feathers, bug wings, paper fibers) than the hood. I likely built up a static charge applying the sealant.

Good question. Aside from the Meg's red bottle, I love 'em all. I almost hate to say there's more on another shelf. To answer your question, and leaving out ONR and UWW+:

In no particular order:
1) Adam's Detail Spray. Available at Detailer's Domain, a sponsor of Autopia.
2) Poorboy's QD+. Poorboy
3) Finish Kare 425. Finish Kare 425 Extra Slick Final Body Shine

But I have to mention Poorboy's Spray & Wipe (Poorboy) as a QD that "leaves nothing behind"; well, very little. It's perfect for cleaning before applying a dedicated spray wax, or for cleaning wheels or just about ANY surface where you don't need or want wax contained in the spray. edit: It's on sale today, 16oz, hurry!

Sweet, thanks for the update.

Good review! One thing I would note is that the amount of product used in the photo below is quite a lot. However, it is a great photo for demonstration of the sprayer pattern. The product will still spread even when it looks like there's nothing on the surface. On the large panels of an F350 I maintain regularly, I would only use a slight bump of the trigger rather than pulling the trigger any significant amount. I use Carnauba Arts mostly for that truck though, which is an easier (relatively) application. The 4-6 months claim is not too far off if it is on a decontaminated/prepped surface and you apply at least two coats. It is a maintenance product and can be used as a drying aid as well.

The thickness and turbidity make this stuff difficult to spray. The trigger is well constructed and plenty big, thank goodness.

Thanks TrKent! Yes, that is an exaggerated amount.

The Presto IS holding up well on my hood. Way better than any QD I've used.

nice review

lol I used more PA gold zirkon and high gloss when I used it on my vehicles, (hides in shame)

light mist isn`t in my vocab apparently

Bump.. Why doesn`t Autopia carry Presto?

As well as most PA products perform I`m surprised Autopia doesn`t carry the full line. I`m still waiting on my bottle of PA Gloss to arrive. I tried to get in on the special order but something went wrong. I guess it will arrive by Spring.
