HD Pxy Durability?

The Guz

Mike
This question might be for those that work at 3D. But I have searched and seen the various durability claims of HD Poxy. I saw that it was reformulated it would help to get an idea. I would like to here what others have seen in terms durability. This would give me an average idea of what to expect from it.

Some things from HD have peaked my interest.

A little background. I am in Sothern California. Actually in the South bay are near the beach cities of Redondo Beach/Manhattan Beach, so the weather here is very good all year round. The temperatures are mid 70's for most of the year and we get the occasional triple digits for a few days. In saying that I tend to see longer durability from various sealants and waxes.

Thanks

Mike

I have noted 12- 16 weeks. In plenty of rain in Pac. NW Winter. In a sunny environment, I would add 4 weeks to that... maybe 6, depending on wash frequency.

Somewhere in the 4-6 month range would be fine with me.

In a moderate climate? I think you will be pleased.

IIRC, I did a test of this against another long-termer during my winter season and the Poxy was fading away towards the end of winter, maybe 4 - 5 months.

Super-e-z to use. Great looks. Good (not amazing) durability.

I've been using Poxy on my daily driver since January. The car is white and is usually washed weekly or every other week at longest. I live in Western Pa, and it's been a pretty harsh winter, snow or ice and the roads for nearly all of February were salted almost daily. Poxy had pretty good beading after each wash. It still allow contamination to still to the paint like iron and black specks of what appears to be tar. Again extremely harsh environmental conditions. In your conditions I would expect to get about 4 months. Truthfully it is so easy to work with I can't imagine waiting that long to reapply.

Thanks all for your posts. This gives me an idea. I am looking to try something new to what I already have.

What would you guys suggest using under Poxy for the ultimate durability, on a new car? Or is it picky in what it lies on at all?

I understand there is Polish and Speed many use as a base but both seem to have quite a bit of abrasives.

The abrasives will not remove all the clear. You could use the polish with a finishing pad and then apply.

If the paint is fine and to your satisfaction just clay and apply.

The wax in Poxy is Montan wax, not Carnuba, which has a higher melting point than Carnuba. Along with the synthetic ingrediants it provides longer durability than Carnuba based hybrid products.

I get about 6 months durability, but use this technique:

After heavy correction use HD Speed (rather than HD Polish) as your final polishing step (or as a one step if your paint is in good shape) with a blue or black Buff & Shine pad. Don't buff the Speed off until you've done the whole car (like you would with an LSP) then let it cure for 12 or so hours and apply POXY. After it's cured another 12 or so hours add a coat of HD Express. I spread the Express with a red foam hand applicator then immediately buff off. The look is fantastic (especially on black, red and dark colors). I add another coat of HD Express every few weeks.

Keep in mind Speed is very pad dependent so if your paint is in great shape a blue or black pad isn't going to remove much clear coat, but will really bring out the shine.

I like Poxy for the weekend driver or garage queen, for durability I like DG 105, Collonite 845/476s, Megs UPW, just to name a few.
