Honda Pilot Detail

RaysWay

Autopia Specialist
Busy weekend for me at home on my "days off" as I detailed 3 cars between Saturday and Sunday. This was the second car and was completed in only 4.5 hours. I was short on time as I was scheduled to start working on this at 8am on Saturday, but due to weather conditions I didn't start working on it until 1:30pm. I was running around like a mad man and I don't think I could've worked up a better sweat at the gym.

Here's the Pilot on arrival.

IMG_1578.JPG

Looks good from a distance with this overcast, cloudy weather; but it was swirled out and dirty.

IMG_1579.JPG

IMG_1580.JPG

The entire Pilot had a film of dirt on it. The client lives on a dirt road, so I had my work cut out for me.

IMG_1582.JPG

IMG_1583.JPG

It had a lot of bird droppings and tar too.

IMG_1585.JPG

The client asked specifically if I could remove this imperfection from the paint. She said it's been an eye sore and the only thing she sees when she looks at her Pilot.

I started with wheels and tires. CarPro Iron X Lemon Scent for the wheels.

Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner for the.....Tires :)

IMG_1587.JPG

With agitation...

IMG_1590.JPG

To wash the Pilot, I used BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond Conditioning Shampoo.

Don't forget the gas cap!

IMG_1602.JPG

After the wash I decontaminated with Iron X on the paint and glass.

IMG_1603.JPG

IMG_1604.JPG

After the Iron X application, I used a Nanoskin Medium 4 inch pad with a Nanoskin Hand Strap to clay the car quickly. (no pictures)

Then I dried the Pilot with an Ultimate Guzzler.

IMG_1607.JPG

This is the XL 28x44 Guzzler. Here it is on the hood for a size comparison.

IMG_1608.JPG

Then I hit all the trim with Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner. This stuff works great at getting any exterior plastic extra clean.

IMG_1611.JPG

IMG_1612.JPG

Then I used SONAX Plastic Restorer Gel. I've been testing a bunch of different trim products on my Sable recently and this stuff is awesome.

The interior was ok, but needed a wipe down and vac.

I used my trusty Autobahn MaxVac btw.

IMG_1630.JPG

All of the interior plastic and vinyl was cleaned/conditioned/and protected with Poorboys Leather Stuff. I'm addicted to this stuff. I've cleaned about 12 interiors with this same bottle so far and it's still almost full. Love the smell too.

It was difficult catching the swirl marks with such cloudy conditions, but you can see the swirls here. I knew it was swirled out before from the inspection before I accepted this detail job.

IMG_1633.JPG

IMG_1640.JPG

After a test spot, BLACKFIRE SRC Compound finished down so nice that I didn't bother following up with a polish.

IMG_1643.JPG

Remember that spot on the fender?

IMG_1641.JPG

Gone! Like magic. Thanks to a FLEX 3401 and an orange Lake Country 5 inch Hybrid Pad.

IMG_1642.JPG

Looking good so far...

IMG_1646.JPG

Then I protected the paint with BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection.

IMG_1649.JPG

Pinnacle Black Onyx Tire Gel on the wheels and Chemical Guys Bare Bones in the wheel wells.

Excuse the mess, I usually don't work this messy but I was short on time.

I don't think it turned out too bad for only 4.5 hours of work :) . I'm just glad the client was flexible with the weather conditions. I'm finding it's difficult scheduling details with South Florida weather since I currently have to do everything outside. Hopefully I'll be in a garage pretty soon.

When the client arrived to pickup the Pilot, she was ecstatic. She mentioned her husband needs me next, but until then I'll be recovering in the hot tub. :passout:

Thanks for reading!

I can't believe you did all that that fast. I wish I could work that fast. Great job too. I see a couple new products I will be trying out too. Tuf Shine tire cleaner has been on my list for awhile but I keep forgetting, sonax plastic restorer is no on the list and the Wet Diamond shampoo, 1oz to 3 gallons is awesome!

Wow nice job. How the heck did you do that in 4.5 hours? Did you polish the entire car?

Wow, great job Vega! You killed it on that job. I wish I could work that fast - my wife wouldn't get as upset with me for spending an entire day (or 2) detailing!!

Thanks. I just checked my text messages and it was actually 4 hours. The car was dropped off at 1:33pm and I sent her a picture of it completed at 5:28pm. I just put my headphones on, blast music on and go full speed until the detail is completed. No breaks.

You haven't tried Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner!?!? Oh man, it's amazing stuff on most tires.

Wow! What a fast turnaround. Great job!

I always loved how well SRC compound finished down

Thanks, me too. It's all you need for most people.

Lots of coffee and loud music in my headphones. No breaks. And yep I polished the entire car. I give credit to the FLEX 3401 with 6.5 and 5 inch hybrid pads.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks and no problem. I was sore after this one.

Nice work! that is fast for an SUV...that would be a Friday night and full day Saturday for me. Great tip on the Tuf Shine to clean black plastic...I'll have to try that.

Hey vega, great job, how did you apply the pinnacle tire gel and how many coats? I got a sample of the pinnacle tire gel and couldn't get the shine you got.

Thats it I'm getting a FLEX the next deal that comes up lol.

When I think FLEX, I think of a work horse. It just powers thru everything. <3 my FLEX.

One thing I've noticed about Tuf Shine on rubber or plastic or tires, is it works best when agitated immediately. Maybe it's the type of surfactants, but I've had much better results when I spray it on, then immediately agitate the surface. I've stopped cleaning two tires at the same time because of this. If I spray Tuf Shine on two tires, by the time I'm finished agitating one tire the second tire needs more Tuf Shine to clean.

Super job
Fast time. Wish I could crank like that and finish as well

Thanks Ronkh.

Looks great broski

Thanks man.

Funny you ask that as I've been applying Pinnacle Tire Gel differently the last few months. It started when I organized my detailing supplies and found I had way too many 5-6 inch wax pads and gallons of tire dressing. So I've been using the finishing pads as tire dressing applicators, and I'm applying heavy coats of tire dressing. I take the gallon of the tire gel and pour from the gallon container directly to the pad. Then go around the entire tire. I don't know exactly how much gel I use, but it's a lot per tire. And of course I thoroughly clean each tire with Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner before applying a dressing.
