Bought my PC and a Chicago Rotary today!

    Finally!

I went down to HF and picked up a high speed for $40 on sale, and I was quite pleased. It`s an updated model from the last one, you can tell it`s built a lot better. Then I ran across the street to the tool store (what a coincidence, HF and a specialty tool store right across from each other), and I lucked out with the PC there! Out the door it was only $135. All I need to do now is purchase my 6" backing plate and pads from Dwayne

I bought the first one, but have used the second one with great results, and I have almost NO experience with a high speed. Check out my Dodge Ram thread in the Pics area

I got the second one, and have been quite happy with it. For me it was a great way to practice with a rotary without a large initial investment.

When I got mine they didn`t have the first one out yet, I think that it is just a newer version of the second.

I have heard that the Chicago Electrics bog down pretty easily...have any of you experienced this?

on a car or boat application it wont bog down unless ur trying to burn though the paint or fiberglass.

They bog down SUPER easily , and if you apply no pressure whatsover only letting the weight of the machine work , the speed still approx lessens to half of what the speed dial says .
    Simply put they suck

Hey! you get what you paid for. But I have to say that I owned one and it did good for me while I saved up for the makita. So I have nothing bad to say about them. Their performance was no surprise for me since I only paid $40.00 for one. What do you expect.
There is allways room for improvement

That is true jpz .. They are loud as a lawnmower also ..
For $10 more , I would`ve recommended you guys try the one with the LCD since it has an electronic motor and the LCD reads the ACTUAL rpm`s so you know what youre working with at all times .

That`s exactly why I went with the Chicago rotary for now, to save some money. I knew I was going to buy the PC as well, so spending $135 on the PC didn`t justify the $200+ for the DeWalt 849 I`d like to get

I had no problems with the other one I used, and I`ve experimented with this one and had no problems. I`m still new to the rotary world, so maybe I didn`t notice any bogging since I didn`t use very much pressure at all (I imagine you shouldn`t anyway :holiday: ). Until I decide to justify the money for a DeWalt, the HF rotary works for me
