So far I`ve been using mainly 6"/6.5" pads on the rotary.

In your experience, are larger 8" pads easier or more difficult to use?

8" are more difficult - bulky and cumbersome. IMO anyway.

6" for compounding, 8" for fine polishing.

Wool aside, I exclusively use 6.5†foam pads with the rotary. I find larger pads (8â€â€“10â€) too big for most surfaces and difficult to control.

I too prefer the 6-6.5" pads. When it comes to different sizes, I use the 4" ones a lot more than the 8"ers.

I have the egde 2k pads and can switch from 8inch to 6 inch in a change of the pad. it`s really nice the system works very well and their foam is top notch.

my 6.5" lake country`s have seen better days, and now that I have the hitachi rotary on the way, I`d like to go get some new ones. I didn`t really like the concaved shape that the LC`s had. are propel pads flat? Will I need to buy a new backing plate for the rotary or will the exisiting 5" BP I have for the PC work?

    Propel...flat as a pancake.

Your BP should have an adapter to fit PC...remove it to use on rotary.
