I have 5 layers of Klasse on two of my cars and 2 layers of Zaino on another. The Klasse I will strip with ABC before re-applying and the Zaino I guess I will just keep layering forever.

How thick can this stuff get? Or is it really infinitesimal compared to the clear coat?

Hmmmm........Sounds like a Ron K. type question.

I would guess that the layers are pretty thin compared to the clear, but I am sure Ron could give you a ton of information.

When Wolfsburg came by the office, took him over to the main shop.

We put a couple of layers on a panel, after measuring the film build bare, the ETG measures in .1 (1/10th) of mil incretments, and there is no difference in the reading.

The products go on in very thin layers, the solvents in the second layer liquifying parts of the first and so on.

I have no idea how you fellows would determine thickness.

We have around somewhere, at the office, these sort of readings from DCX, due to testing done over the years.

If I recall they used some very strange indicator for thickness, this being due to how small each layer is.

The thing that will get you, put on layers and layers over previous that have absorbed contaminates, or have pure carnuaba`s built up. They yellow with age and will over time, give a "yellowish" tinge to a white vehicle.

Wish I could be of more help on this, but this is all I got for you

If you look at a magazine or a baseball card or something, the coating thickness is about .1 to .2 mils (sure it`s not anywhere near the same kind of thing) but just something to think about.

You can measure coating weights, and you have access to a pretty good scale (0.xxx digits) with a cover, you can Klasse a panel (if you can get or make one) a few times over then take the weight and divide by the surface area (l x w). 1 mil = 25 microns = micrometer (I think?) the we would need to be able to relate coating weight to actual thickness which you could come up with a factor if you send the panel to Ron. (then everone could use the factor)

just do it twice a year basically!!!!!

But the REAL question is whether the thickness depends on which MF towel you use to buff the residue.... and for that info, I would assume we could rely on the premier supplier of the BEST MF`s on Autopia!!!
