*SAMPLED* - Poorboys MF & Pad Cleaners (Typhoon / Torndado)

My experience follows

** Typhoon Microfiber Cleaner **

Background - When I first got into detailing, I washed my MF towels in the washing machine using ALL Free Clear. It worked well enough for me and had no complaints. Eventually, though, I moved to a dedicated product by way of 3D`s Towel Kleen. Like the ALL I had used prior, it worked well enough, with no complaints.

Typhoon appears to be a detergent and certainly smells like one. I didn`t care for the scent, which I would describe as "typical detergent" type scent. It wasn`t awful, but it was stronger than the other products I`ve used. This was most noticeable AFTER the wash, when I opened up the washing machine lid. The scent was obvious, albeit, not offensive. No big deal. It smells like a cleaner, and it IS a cleaner.

Cleaning: Yes, it cleans. I had just over 30 towels, so I didn`t want to use the instructed 4oz for 26-50 towels. IMO, if 2 oz will be enough for 25, then maybe half an ounce to one full oz should suffice for an additional 10-15 towels. So I ended up using about 3 oz.

To make things a little more interesting, this is testing after all, I threw in some of my "throwaways" including one that has NEVER been washed. That little sucker I`ve kept around and used for various things, from wiping down tools, my hands, etc.

All in all, I was surprised by the end results. I didn`t expect for the throwaways to come out as "clean" as they did. I used quotes because even though they are cleaner, they are stained and I wouldn`t use these on paint. Again, they are throwaways. But Typhoon did a good job on these towels, and a great job on the others that were in the wash. I feel Typhoon has provided a better clean over Towel Clean. Maybe not by much, but enough.

The bad: Yes, I found a bad. 2 things, actually. First, I only have about ONE ounce left. Second, I still have over half a gallon of Towel Clean left.

But on a serious note, Towel Clean works. I`m satisfied with it. Poorboy`s World Typhoon works, and I liked it better, regardless of the scent.

The yellow Costco towel in the forefront was one of the throwaways, as was the little folded up greenish one.






On this set of towels, there`s a white cotton towel that I used for cleaning on the fly the day before. The purple side was the Ultima polish while the orange-ish side was the Ultima compound (Review on those coming soon). After the wash, the towel was far cleaner than I`ve ever seen it with just a hint of purple on that one section.






** Tornado Pad Cleaner **

Background I tend to wash my pads by hand. I tried by machine once or twice, and I am happier washing them by hand. I feel they come out cleaner this way. When I first started polishing, I bought a CG Hexlogic kit that included their Pad Cleaner. That`s the Pad Cleaner Ive been using since I started late in 2014.

- So I had the bottle and uncapped it. I didn`t bother unscrewing the sprayer head to get a whiff of it, suspecting I`d be smelling it soon enough. I brought out some pads that have been sitting for several months (in a covered plastic container, not just "laying around") as well as three pads I had just used last weekend. I went about doing my usual process: Spray several times onto a handful of pads, putting them aside to let them soak with the cleaner. I then agitate the pads with my hands, run some warm/hot water over them as I agitate further, and watch the residue wash off. I keep doing this til the pads appear clean and the runoff water is clear.

On this particular cleaning, I was hit with something weird. I did end up smelling the cleaner, but can only describe as smelling a bit like window cleaner. Not sure, really. The weird part was that whatever particles were in the air (not from me putting it to my nose, but just from the particles in the air) were causing me to sneeze. Yes, I`m blaming the cleaner. I hadn`t been sneezing earlier, and it was only then that I sneezed. I sprayed some more to see if it was the cleaner, and had the same reaction. No problem, i just turned my head away and held my breath a bit while whatever was in the air settled down. I wanted to keep going with the testing, after all. A bit later, I felt some itchiness around my right eye. I wear glasses, so I`m protected there. I pushed on.

I ended up spending about 35 minutes hand washing five pads (YES! I understand I need a new process!! No need to point that out). Here are some before and afters.






**** OHHH, yeah. I thought it was interesting that this orange cut pad with compound foamed a little bit when I sprayed it

Conclusion (For Tornado): Whatever odd reaction my body was having to this cleaner, would prevent me from buying it down the line. I do take my daily allergy related meds, so I don`t want to add to the list of things that trigger. Aside from that, I felt that Tornado could use some improvement in the cleaning department. At least, in the way that *I* clean. However, as noted earlier, I feel I need to find a new way of washing my pads. And after seeing donbeezy`s method, I will be trying that out. I will also be trying Tornado using that method.

I used the rest of mine today, I wasn`t a fan of the scent of the chemical, but after washing the towels with the detergent it left the towels smelling super fresh and clean. It reminded me of my favorite air freshener(made by Zep)

Indeed. I forgot that part. They did come out of the dryer feeling soft and smelling fresh/clean.
