Now that I know what the defect is called, I know that my brand new car has some OP on the factory paint job. I`ve never done anything to the exterior of my previous vehicles besides washing and an occasional wax, but I`ll be trying to gain experience in actually taking care of my new car. Before I wash, clay, and apply the klasse twins, is there anything that I, as a detailing newbie and without a PC, would be able to do to get rid of the OP or at least reduce some of it?

The consensus is that nothing short of wetsanding will remove that orange peel...which isn`t really a viable option for a new car. You have to live with it--it`s the result of low VOC paints.

Yep, to be expected to some degree in today`s paint jobs on most cars.

That stinks. Guess I`ll never be able to truly have a mirror-like shine on my car.

You can still make your car look better than 99% of what you see on the roads though, as evidinced by these forums.
