My car is getting a total respray this week. Beyond the manufacturers curing guidelines, what initial steps should I take to ensure a good shine from the start?

Speak to the sprayer directly and tell him how fussy you are and how you really want to see how good a craftman is can be.

Yeah, the most important thing IMO is to make sure it`s fine before you take it. Then just maintain it with proper wash/dry techniques and something new-paint-friendly (Meg`s #3, #5, #7, #80 or 3M`s IHG).
