Hello all, new to the form. Figure this was the best place to ask. Someone told me I should wait a year before using a paste wax on a clear coat finish. WHAT?

not true. You can wax it immediately. There are some people who say that a paint isnt fully cured for x days, but when a car is made, it is baked so that the paint cures immediately. And even if you dont believe that, then think about this. By the time you get the car, it has been at least a month since it was made, probably more.

Download the eBook, search and read like crazy, wash and dry your paint carefully, clay it, glaze it, wax it, and be happy.

    Welcome!

This is completely uneccessary. You don`t even have to wait that long to wax a repainted car. Like 4DSC said, read the ebook and read the threads and then enjoy detailing your car.

    welcome.

i was talking to a body shop, and i asked the same thing, about waiting and all.....he said that with the new types of paint booths out that you can paint immediately. his was a hot air recirc booth....put out 350 degree filtered heat. so it cures in a day. u may find lower quality shops that do not have this type and that is why they tell u to wait.....and factory paint is baked at even higher degrees b/c they have no trim and junk, just paint and the frame and panels

If your car is new from the factory, you dont need to wait before doing anything. If you have had some work done on the paint, the best thing to do is ask the paintshop.

My friend just got his back lid/trunk on his truck striped and repainted.

How long should he wait before washing it ?

    Waxing it ?

It`s been a week so far.

The body shop that did it had a "baking room" for the car.

From what I`m reading here, sounds like he can do it right away.

He can polish it but if he wants to wax, he should wait 30 days or the shop might not gaurantee the work completed.
