Brand new car- (focus ST) products and steps?

Hi fellas-

A lady friend of mine bought a brand new Focus ST today. I specified for no dealer detail, all plastics still inside, etc etc.

The car is Oxford white and I wanted to do a simple process on it with an extremely durable sealer seeing as it will be a daily driver.

-Clay
-Polish with 85rd
-Seal with Collinite?

Heard leaps and bounds of good things as being a great sealer for the winter time.

Sounds like a great plan if you get the car and it has no paint issues in it..

As you probably already know, Menzerna PO85RD is a final polish that has at Cut of 1, and a Gloss of 5..
Of course pads that are not final polish pads could be used to give a little more correction but it is going to be very light correction if any..

If you have a good machine and a few pads, good pad cleaner, and the rest, this should work out for you..

Collenite is pretty hard to beat but some people on this Forum love Finish Kare 1000-- Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Paste Wax 15 oz.

IMO can`t go wrong with either Collinite 845 or FK1000P, to me both have very minor pros vs. cons when compared with each other, but nothing too drastic to make me want to stop using one over the other.

A pal of mine suggested I simply wipe the car down with alcohol on a MF cloth to decontaminate the paint and simply seal it.

Is this a horrible idea?

If the paint is in truly good condition you can simply wash, prep, wax.

Colli 845 is good stuff. My main question is how durable do you want to go and where are you located. Location has a lot to do with durability.

I am located in Canada which not only has long winters but extremely hot summers with bad humidity. As mentioned, car is a daily and is Oxford white.

Plus one on the Iron-X. You will be surprised by the amount of iron contamination, then I would clay the car. Wash it, and go with your plan. The Ford Focus is a nice looking car.

Rail dust is very common on new cars... Especially noticeable on white.

If it were my car I would do:

1. Iron X
2. Finishing Polish (assuming no random scratches/marring needs compounding)
3. Eraser or IPA wipedown
4. Coating (CarPro, GTechniq, Optimum, Etc.)

I wouldn`t even bother with the wax personally. It doesn`t self clean as well as coatings IMO.

I am in Ohio so south of you but our winters are crappy as well.

As others have said I would suggest a Decon treatment as even new cars have "rail dust" from the transportation process. Colli 845 is good stuff and will last if you are looking for a wax. But a coating such as Opti Gloos-Coat would last 2+ years and give much better and longer lasting protection.

I`d decontaminate it the way Fords are supposed to be decontaminated, with ValuGard`s ABC. Especially on a white car (even if it is in the wrapper)..

Shouldn`t need any polishing, but might anyhow.

I`d LSP with FK1000P, which is the only LSP I`d ever even consider for white.

Not "horrible", but not very good either. I can`t imagine IPA doing any kind of effective decontamination.

Even for the transit-wrap, I`d remove it properly (ValuGard`s New Car Prep).

Sigh...people seem to think IPA can do most anything for some reason.

Don`t have VALU GUARD at my supplier but he does have Iron X and Chemical Guys Decon Pro Iron remover?

As for a LSP- I have a bottle of Megs No. 21....is FK the better option?
