Hello everyone, today i stated buffing my car and all seemed well and fine however after trying to remove the swirls the finish appeared to go strange, if you look at the pictures below you can see to right of sun theres a dull section that has a very very slight texture to it.

Am i buffing through the clear???? or am i simply removing oxidation, if you look to the left of the dull spot you can see a normal looking finish yet there is no tell tale sign of orange peel texture that you get with clear coat, i gave that normal spot a heavy rub with wax to see if any paint would come up on the applicator however none did so i have no idea if i`ve buffed down to the base coat.

I can`t really see well on my phone, but it does look like you may have gone through the clear on one side. What pad/machine/product were you using? Were you moving the machine much? Tell us more about your application procedure please.

oh that doesnt seem good. I was using a brand new makita rotary spinning at about 1000rpm, using a brand new lc 6.5 inch orange ccs foam pad with a new lc flexible backing plate. For the polish i was using menzerna power finish 203s and using a moderate pressure easing right back after about 2 passes. I didnt do a complete inspection of paint quality in that area though although it was clayed before being buffed.

I buffed the bonnet and roof before this section which is on the rear quarter panel and they seemed to have an unbelievably hard clear which the above mentioned pad combo could barely cut through. A little extra info this dull section appeared after the first pass and seems to be able to buff away but its hard to tell if its oxidation or clear coat as once im through the dull area their doesnt seem to be any colour paint coming off then again the polish is white and so is the car haha, should i try buffing by hand with a coloured pad and coloured compound to see if paint comes off or would that just make matters worse. thankyou in advanced

forgot to add i was moving the buff at a moderate pace like a foot every 1 and half seconds, hard to say as i dont realy time and measure the distance of each pass
