Here`s my modest contribution to the thread:

I wonder though as we amass a wealth of chemicals, products, gadgets and gizmos if we`re missing the zen of detailing. Shouldn`t the objective be to achieve the desired outcome with the most efficient process involving minimum time, effort and product investment ?

Just wondering.
