    black plastic faded?....

one of the plastic engine covers in my vehicle has gotten a white, pale look to it after i applied a quick detailer to it... to be honest, not sure what was on the mf towel i wiped it with, it was either spray and gloss or qd+ but the normally black plastic has gotten a white/grey/milky appearance to it

everything i tried on it just made it more white and more pale colored

the plastic is new so i am not sure how i could have don`t it but maybe it was a combination of the cleaner and the heat in the engine bay?

regardless, any thoughts how i can clean this surface? i guess i can try to use tire shine/silicone to bring a little moisture and darkness back to it but i was hoping maybe there was another option.... maybe polish it w/ a light polish?

thanks for input... i tried to take a picture but didn`t come out good but it should be a nice matte black and instead its pale grey

    thx

I`ll bet on qd+, sg doesn`t have wax

try dilute apc & a soft tooth brush

if not, then dp coating prep polish, work in, wipe off wet
Formerly the "Best Detailer", now just Super Wax Waster Man. Not necessarily tactful, but normally right. It`s good to be da King !!!

What`s the texture of the plastic...smooth or grainy? Will make a difference in what I suggest

BlackWOW - Pre-WOW works great to get wax residue off of plastic panels. But usually an APC with a toothbrush and towels works as well.

I would just re-coat with Wurth Trim Coating. By the time and effort is expended trying to clean and seal you can permantly fix it for $25.00.

    Re: black plastic faded?....

My best results have come from cleaning with Griot`s Rubber Prep and then treating with something *known* to be friendly to the black plastic in question. ValuGard`s FastFinish is the QD that always works on it for me, and I also like the Sonus TTG+ sealant. Other stuff works OK, and I don`t always reach for the stuff I mentioned, but those are the products I`d try if something proved finicky.
