car had never seen a detail before...and one could tell!!!! bumpers were pretty torn up with scratches, gouges, deep imperfections, so I just hit those with megs 66 and a orange pad by pad to remove the oxidation and hide some of the defects...no point in risking burning through the paint and not to mention ruining my pads from the cuts/gouges in the paint...error on the side of caution...

Process:

ONR

megs wheel brightener

megs trim detailer gel (my new favorite dressing for trim)

HTEC/lc purple wool/1500

menzerna IP/lc white/1200

polieseal/megs yellow/speed 6

OCW

Befores: yes I actually took some of this car...LOL

And the AFTERS....still some remaining RIDS and deeper swirling, but it cleaned up over 90%...these shots were taken at the 6 hour mark, I finished up the rest of the car at almost 8 hours...a few spots could have used some wetsanding too...

WOW! What an improvement. I was just wondering though, from some of the after shots taken I noticed some subtle cobwebbing. Perhaps another round of polish...

yeah it could have used another step, but honestly, the amount of work and the money I received, and the time this took already, it just didnt make sense to kick my own butt anymore...this one was for a friend who is selling the car in two months and just wanted it "cleaned up..."

the fact that just after HTEC and the buffer trails left the owner said how much better it looked and I could stop right there, I realized he didnt really care what it looked like in the end, just as long as it was sellable...LOL

I would love to perfect every single car I come into contact with, but when its going to take over 8 hours to get it to that point, and i am getting paid for less than half...its kind of a deterrent...give me someone who wants their car perfected and willing to spend 500+ and Ill do it no problem...LOL, but for $100, its not worth the effort...

Great improvement, that thing was hammered! I hope you got more than $100 for 8 hours of work.

It is like a lesson in life. Why do we always get things to look so great when we want to sell it but let it run down while we own? I think we are all guilty of this at times.

toyotaguy- Thanks for sharing this one, I really like "reasonable level" details on "real drivers". Great job, especially for the amount of time you spent.

OK...let *me* play second-guesser/monday morning QB too:

What about using something other than the PolySeal for that penultimate step..I dunno how much correction/concealing the PolySeal does, but that`s the one step I might`ve tried differently. What might the #66 have done?

Please don`t take the above the wrong way, I`m just thinking out loud.

Looking very nice! I have done cars like these before (going to be sold) and I use them as pratice cars, I may spend 10hrs on that car but only get paid 125$, but the experience of trying methods and product pay off in the long run.

Invest in a tripod and the photos will improve for sure.

^^^^ I need a tripod and a camera!!!! hahaha....this camera is a crappy one i borrowed...

Accum - I was thinking the same thing about 66, i wish I would have just gone with it, but sometimes I get streaking and on black, I didnt want to sit there and buff it off all day long....I never have streaking with poliseal, which is why I go with that all the time.

thanks for the kind words...and the wells ended up dressed, and the tires twice...!!!!!

toyotaguy- Ah, that sounds reasonable (about the #66 streaking). I was thinking that I woulda gone with some 1Z polish with wax in it, that`s why I wondered about the #66.

You make a good point, I never thought about that. Your reward is the experience you gain, more so than the money.

Nice detail. Lots of customers in Orange County want mini details, and minor correction. Especially leased car drivers and younger people. We had lots of mortgage acoounts, and lots of them were that way. And "testing products on a customers car?" That is not professional. Test on your own cars in my opinion
