My question to all seasoned zaino users are:



1) Why do a Z6 or Z8 Wipe down between coats when putting on multiple coats in one day? What benefit do you really get?



2) What difference do you see or get when using a z8 vs z6 wipedownn between coats?



Here is why I ask ... This weekend I re-zaino'd the wife's vehicle. Process was 1)wash, 2)clay, 3)deswirl, 4) ZPC then 5)three coats of z2 with zfx 6)top with z8 after the last coat. In the past I always z6'd between coats but was never quite sure why. Given this was the wife's vehicle I figured I would experiment: on half of the hood I did a wipe-down before and after the first coat of z2 then a z8 wipe down after the second coat. The other half of the hood just got three coats of z2 after zpc. While applying or removing the z2, I really could tell no difference in application or product removal between the side of the hood that was wiped down with z6/z8 and the side that wasn't. After the third coat of z2, I could not tell any difference between the two sides of the hood. I finished the job with a z8 wipedown of the entire vehicle.



So that brings me back to my question: If I can not tell the difference, then why wipedown between coats? To be fair, my wife's vehicle is a white metallic pearl and it is pretty difficult to notice subtle differences with this car color. Therefore, I am looking to the zainoholic experts to tell me what differences they see / feel especially on darker cars! In other words, convince me I should continue to do the wipedowns between coats.



Lastly, what difference do you see in the end result if you use a z8 wipedown between coats as opposed to z6.

The only difference that i have seen on my black truck after a Z6 wipedown is the surface is clean of all product prior to application of the Z5 or Z2Pro. Without the wipe down there will be more particles from the previous process. Not an expert but that is why I do the wipedowns.
 
You don't necessarily *need* the Z6 or Z8 between layers.





The only reason *I* do it is because I usually work quickly. In working quickly I wipe quickly and spraying Z8 between layers creates a slicker surface, hence no towel induced marring.
 
I notice the difference because my car is black , I also can tell on my wife's Dark blue van.

1 & 2. GSRstilez and gears hit it on the head.

Working on dark colors is what attracted me to Zaino , also long time users can tell the extra Z8 gives as well as the extra Z2 pro gives. I actually was bored and did my car this weekend after the first coat of Z5 I used Z6 and after the second coat I used Z8 IMO there was a significant difference.

I was just trying to use the Z6 up ( also use it on my rims and interior ).

Everyone has different views on what look they prefer, for me Zaino can't be beat. I love the way it makes my cars look,and by all the complements I get others agree.
 
The only reason I use Z6 sometimes between coats is to help with the application of the next coat of polish.

Z6 really makes the previously applied coat slicker and aids in applying the next ultra thin coat of Z5 or Z2PRO.

This in turn reduces the amount of polish needed to apply multiple coats.
 
I was playing with Zanio and my Red Honda Goldwing and for a solid week I put layer after layer on one saddle bag. Letting it cure 24hours after each coat. And even after 6-7 layers (paint was clayed and polihsed up front so no paint defects were there) I could not honestly tell any difference in the look or feel of that one spot vs the rest of the bike.



It all felt good to me so I am not 100% sold on the clarity aspect of layers. Perhaps it will last longer but for a bike that I keep in the basement anyway who cares?

I more or less just use it as a clean up before my next layer goes on. I really dont think it adds any considerable gloss. But it does a great job of removing any residues and slickens the surface for a final inspection or a final coat. I'll also spritz some on the surface as I'm removing Z2 or Z5, This really helps helps speed up removal.
