Zaino wearing off...

Ok on both the IS300 and the ML the paint below the rub strip on the door panels seems to be beading pretty poorly and water is clinging, however the rest of the car is still beading like a champ. So this weekend should i Z7 wash, Z6 and then Z2/ZFX 3x. OR Dawn wash, then Z2/ZFX 3x. Thanks guys!
 
as long as you've only been washing with Z7 since you applied the Z, you can go ahead and just do a Z7, no need for the dawn. Or you could just wash below the rub strip with dawn, then follow up by washing the whole car with Z7... :)
 
For me, I'd do your first choice.



Al, I recall your reviews of DACP, is that how you prep'd your surface for Z? Thinking about giving the DACP a shot.

Yup I LOVE DACP! Very easy to work with, a touch less abrasive than 3M FI2. I used #9 2.0 on the IS300. For me Zaino always seems to last longer when u buff the paint with some type of abrasive first....

My initial detail was in june, i did a buff with #9 2.0 and 2x Z5/ZFX. Then a month later i put on a layer of Z2 after a Z7 wash. And last month i put on a layer of Z2 after a Z7 wash.

The Dawn isn't necessary and it won't strip any remaining Z anyway. The only thing I might suggest is a spot clay because you are talking about your rockers.

If you use the DACP, be sure you do do (insert child-like chuckle here) a Dawn wash prior to the Z to remove the oils.

Having always heard so much about the Zaino durability, something doesn't seem quite right with this scenario. If I understand correctly, your original Zaino application is about 5 months old, second layer is 4 months old, a third layer is 1 month old, yet you are having a problem with it possibly being "gone" in some areas. That isn't quite what I would expect from Zaino.

Is it possible that the #9 2.0 left some oils or some sort of residue that didn't allow the first application in June to bond correctly? If that were the case the following layers would have less than ideal conditions for survival. I don't happen to be a Zaino user, but your results seem to be rather uncommon from everything I have read about the product.

Yea i was thinking the same thing.... I dunno i think its also the way i applied the zaino, i seemed to apply less on the lower panels(thinner). I dunno, ill do a Z7 wash this weekend and see what happens.
 
If you have any Z1 you might consider starting with Z1, then Z2/ZFX... or just Z2 (since the Z1 might require the full 24 hour cure anyway).



I don't remember anyone having a wear-off problem with Z1 as a base coat.
