Zaino upgrade?

Hello all. I have a 69 dark green GTO that has had Zaino for the last 10 years. I'm thinking there might be something better out there as of the last many years? The Zaino has performed well, and I have no problems with it with one exception. The minor swirl marks are showing and Zaino really doesn't have a "filler" product that works well.

So, my question is, what filler/Glaze would you recommend along with a Carnauba wax on top of that? Any prep work needed to remove the Zaino? As you can tell, I'm not a pro here, but do like to show the car.

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Looks like a beautiful ride.

For a sealant I like Blackfire-Wet Diamond and for a Carauba I like Dodo Juice Supernatural, Souveran, P21S, and Balckfire Midnight Sun.

It really comes down to what looks good in your eyes though. IMO classic cars look best with a nice coat of nuba, and I feel they really don't need the durability of a sealant since most are fair weather cars and almost always garaged.

At the very least I would give the car a good wash, clay bar and light polish prior to applying a new LSP.

Cheers,

Rasky

After a clay bar session, get the paint right with a two step polish and then you can use what ever sealant or wax to preserve your efforts........

Skip the filler/glaze half *** stuff.........

Do it right.........!

You need to concentrate on those "minor swirl marks" that are showing before doing anything else in my opinion.

Do you have a machine polisher?

I agree correct the scratches first. Maybe PO85RD Or SIP on a finishing pad. Polish first then apply your LSP.

Thanks for all the information guys! I do have a PC machine. I'll let you know how things turn out!

Fix the swirls if you have enough paint left to play with. Then if you want a sealant that will look great on that color, give Blackfire Wet Diamond a try. It looks like a Carnauba, lasts longer and is slicker than snot. If you want a carnauba, Collinite 915 is great for the price but there are so many other fun choices. You'd have to tell us a particular look you are going for and if you had concerns about durability, etc.

If you want some swirl hiding after fixing the paint with your PC I would suggest chemical ez creme glaze. As an LSP, BFWD is pretty awesome because it goes on easily and removes easily too.

I see your in Michigan. Why not call Marc at AutoLavish.com and have him come over and help you out. Marc is a very good man. I'm sure he can get that paint to 100%. You might even learn something to. Marc also has a pretty nice collection of waxes that I'm sure you would just love to play with. I know I would!! I would first correct them swirls as mentioned. Such a nice car, it should be at its best. Have a great day.

stu- I simply *LOVE* that shade of Poncho green :xyxthumbs (Heh heh, that's assuming it's the paint I think it is :o )

Be a little careful about correcting the marring lest you overthin the paint. I get kinda :nervous: when people say to skip glazes/fillers and just correct the paint; I have a few vehicles where that's simply not feasible.

Plus, IME cars that get shown often get wiped down/duster-ed/etc., which results in marring. I hardly *ever* see showcars that're "Autopian Perfect", at least not by the end of the season.

I wonder how you'd like it with some Autoglym Super Resin Polish topped with some wax like 845 that'd let the flake show OK.

Yes, it is the Pontiac "Midnight green" color. You don't see many GTOs in that Green. The paint was done in 92 and rubbed out a few times sense then. The filler idea seemed the way to go rather then take more paint off. It looks good as is, but I'm looking for a little more. I like the Zaino look, but maybe time for a change.

I did leave a voice mail for Marc also. Waiting to hear back.

Sorry for the delay in responding here, we've been busy!

I'll be emailing back soon, but as an FYI - I never received any voicemail from anyone. I hope to be in touch,
