Zaino Streaking issue, please help

Hi all – this is my first post, but been a lurker for some time. Appreciate all the info I’ve learned thus far.

So here’s my problem. Last weekend I finally Zaino’d my car (Jet Black BMW).

Process started with

Saturday: DAWN, Z7, Z5 (ZFX), Z6, Z5 (ZFX), Z6

Sunday: Z5(ZFX), Z6, Z2 (no ZFX), Z6, ZCS, Z8

All applicators 100% cotton towels and 314 applicators.

All applications of Z5 and Z2 : used about ¼ oz.

Everything looks great until Sunday afternoon, where I started to notice very dark streaks/blotches all over the hood and trunk (and some other locations). Not really noticeable from 3 feet, but any closer and you can definitely see them. Also, I did not notice these until Sunday.

So after reading numerous posts, I thought I had issues with ZCS not drying properly. I let it sit over night, still there. I tried reapplying Z6 over the spots to clean…no dice. I tried Z8…still there. I finally tried a damp towel wipe down…nope. So I thought, I’ll let it dry for a few days, thinking Z2 or ZCS needed time to dry…It’s Weds, still there and not fading at all. Also, they don’t wipe off unless I use my finger to rub really hard…then it seems to push it around…a normal towel wipe doesn’t do a thing.

Where did I go wrong? What do you think it is (ZCS? Z2?)? How do I fix it?

I haven’t had time to go back and wash the car, but I’m thinking that’s what I have to do, unless you guys think it’ll disappear after some more dry time.

Thanks - Fong

Damn! Do you need that many coats of Zaino? LOL. That was me last year when I started.

Basically, did you try to wash your car first to see if the streaking went away? My GF had the same issue with her Civic Hybrid (dark blue) and she said she just used a fresh MF towel, and damp it with warm water and wipe it down. Try that, and also a Z-7 wash.

I still have yet to come across any streaking problems with my anthracite TL, and BEFORE, I used too much product when I started out.

And a side note.. I would of waited to apply Z-CS, then wait another day for Z-8 because the Z2p and Z5p needs to cure.

Thanks man for the reply. Ofcourse I needed that many coats :) I had to use all those nice shiny bottles I got in the mail, no way was I going to let one be left out...hahaha

Washing the car was my next step, but didn't want to do that if I you guys thought it just needed to sit and dry out more. I do have Z7, so that will be my first wash. The damp towel just didn't do a thing unfortunately... :(

Oh - and thanks for the tip with using Z8 the next day. I was inbetween using it so soon, just eager to see the end results..

I think the problem lies with the Z8 immediately over the ZCS. Also, you may have applied ZCS to thick which may have left streaking. The Z8 on top of that could have then made it worse. I would suggest washing it with Z7, and it should be perfect.

P.S.

NEED PICS :D

Thanks Greg! That makes a lot of sense. Again, the impaient me wanted to get it done in a weekend (wife and kids have disowned me as they think I have replaced them with my car)...

Will try to lighten up on the ZCS and wait on Z8. Will post pics too! I will let you guys know if it did the trick.

Like above, it was most likely not the 4 coats of z2/z5, ZCS and Z8 consecutively were probably the cause. Give it a wash and see, and yeah, lets see that Bimmer.

sounds like polymer overload- CS needs some time to cure. let it sit and totally dry and them wash and you should be ok.

I had the EXACT same problem on my Ridgeline. I waited a week and then washed with Z7 and did 3 coats (ZFX obviously) of Z2, with Z6 wipedowns in between, and voila nothing but shine.

I'd be willing to bet it was the Z2 plus you're putting it on too thick. I can get 2-3 applications in a 1/4 oz. It needs to be applied extremely thin.

I don't do more then 3 coats in a 24 hour period, more then that will typically get streaking, especially if you're putting it on too thick.

Another thing, how come you didn't claybar the car before hand? This will help the Zaino bond better to the clear with the surface being contaminant free.

\r\n\r\n\r\nGreat point, and since I\'ve never used Z2 before, I did notice how thick it was. Will lay it more thin in the future.\r\n\r\nThe reason I didn\'t clay was because a week before, I had a detailer out who clayed/3M Swirl Mark Remover my car. I was just sealing it...Did I do that wrong?\r\n\r\nIm definitely getiing \"Lessons learned\" with this stuff, more initial work to put on Zaino, but the results are awesome!\r\n\r\nPics to come! Thanks everyone! U guys are the best!'

Definitely Zaino overload. A washing or wipe with damp (water) towel should take care of your streaks. I have noticed this too if I apply CS after I apply a LOT of Zaino without waiting atleast 24 hours or washing once first.
