Zaino application questions

1. It's well-known that "thinner is better," but how thin can I go? Sometimes I'll have the MF pad with some Z-(whatever) and after a wiping half a panel, see the streaks immediately evaporate on the surface and not see a haze. Is this too thin or is it okay? I thought I read somewhere that if I see a haze, it's gone on too thick.

2. Zaino's site instructions for Z-2 / 5 application states that when using with ZFX, I should wait 20 - 30 minutes and then buff off normally, followed by a Z-6 wipe-down. What happens if I got lazy and buffed off with the Z-6 wipe-down instead? Does it make any difference?

3. At approximately how many layers is there a point of diminishing returns? If I applied 50 layers, is it going to be that much better than 5 - 10 layers? Not that I'll ever go past 6, but I'm just curious.

Well I am also wondering about your first question. The same happens to me and what I usually do is then apply a small pea size to my applicator and go over the are again till i can see streaks.

2. Don't be lazy I think you should wipe the z2 off then wipe down with z6. I have never wiped z2 off with z6 but I mean heck its easy enough to wipe down should only take 5-7 min. It just comes off soo easy. Also I get great results doing z6 after z2 has been wiped off.

3. There are some guys on zainos site that have 40-50 coats on and their stuff looks good. They say as many layers as you want and that anything after 8-9 layers will be the best. meaning 1-7 get better the more you go then 8-? is pretty much a constant. I havent ever gone past about 13-15. Also I dont know how much is taken off with daily driving and when I wash so if I put on 10 coats in a month and wash every weekend I might not have equivalent to 10 coats on there. This is just my interpretation from what I have red. I know that there are much more experinced people than me with zaino. I ahve only been using it for a couple of years.

Usually I spritz some Z-6 on the pad and put a few dots and it spreads pretty far and evenly. I can use less than 1/2 an ounce of Zaino polishes on my TL, including all my windows.

The most coats of Zaino I put was over 10. I didn't really notice that much of a difference, so I stopped and just apply a coat at least once a month.

I'll try...hope others chime in.

1) Yes, thinner is better, you use less product, dries faster and thus easier to buff off. I use either foam or cotton, try to go as thin as I possibly can, to a point where I can barely barely see it. Now I use about 5ml (1/6 ounce) for one coat of Z2/Z5 on a normal sedan.

2) I think Z-6 wipe down after buffing is to ensure clean surface prior to applying additional coat(s).

3) I tried up to 6~8 coats and didn't really notice anything significant compared to 3 coats.

I agree, I have been using Zaino for over 4 years and there has to be a point that it becomes useless.. As far as the wipe off with z6, I have used it and it does not seem to make that big of difference.(as it comes off so easy) I sometimes use it after I wipe off z2 and before my next coat..:waxing:

So a properly-applied layer of Z-(x) should leave a thin haze, or no haze at all? After spreading it out over a panel section, by the end of the section sometimes there's no haze residue so I'm wondering if that's "too thin." Being a little unsure, I end up dabbing my pad with just a little more Z-(x) and applying to those supposedly-undercoated areas.

Or am I just wasting product that way?

Sounds like it is possbile that your app ran out of product as you should see a little bit of hazing when the zaino is cured. Sometimes on lighter colors it is also hard to see. If you are having issues getting Z2/5pro to spread, then spray a light coat of Z6 on the panel and go over that with Z2/5pro. That will help it spread more and you will use less.
