Z5 and swirls

Alot of people saw what my swirled paint looked like after the Honda dealership gave me a complimentary swirl job, I mean car wash lol. Well I put 2 coats of Z5 on my car and brought it in full sun.

Wow, it looks about 85% better. I brought it under florescent lights, and still about 85% better.

My conclusion. Either the idiots that swirled my car

1. Put the majority of swirls in my layor of Zaino. If that's the case then Zaino protects the paint even more than I imagined.

2. The majorty of the swirls went through the Zaino and went in the clearcoat, and Zaino covered them up. If this is the case then Z5 (the old stuff) works better than everyone claims.

3. A combo of both.

Now, I put the Z5/Zfx on very heavy. It took about an hour for each coat to dry... I know everyone says that is a waste, but maybe that's the only way Z5 is effective? Hopefully with another 2 coats tomorrow and a topper with Z2 it will like as if the swirls were never there.:)

Ahunt01:

If you like the old Z5, wait till you try the NEW Z5! Much better results! More liquid than before. It's now in a white bottle and banana in color.

Do yourself a favor, get the newer one and try that! You will be happier with the new version of both Z5 and Z2.

Sal improved the formula to hide more swirls than before. Not a perfect cover, but damn good with several coats. I love the newer version being thinner, easier on the ZFX bottles!

Give it a try now that you can order directly on the website now!!

I can't wait to try it. That's why I put my old Z5 on thick, to get rid of it lol. To my supprise it did a very good job, and I still plan to put 1-2 more coats on tomorrow. I think I'll be pleased with the final results :) . I'll re-post the before pic and I'll try to take an after pic at the exact angle/time to get a good comparison.

UHFA!! What the hell did they rub on the panel?

Anyway, looks like you're a canidate for that PC after all!

Once you have one, you'll look for other things to make shiny!

Great shot of the Z5 area. Wait till the new Z5 hits that same area! The new Z2 is also more glossy!!!

Let us know when you get your PC.

DO it right and remove the swirls with abrasives as much as possible before covering them up with makeup llike Z5.....

Who knows, maybe you got lucky and all that guy damaged was the Zaino coats. Such a thing has been reported before... :nixweiss Anyway, glad you're making progress.

I can't recall the contents of your threads (yes all of them! :p) but did you say the car was swirl-free prior to your last Zaino application (and this incident)?

I can't recall the contents of your threads (yes all of them!

Lol, yeah the car was pretty much swirl free (hidden) prior to taking my car to the dealership. All I had to do was put one coat of Z5 on every couple of months to keep them at bay.

There are tons of people around who don't like Z5 because it doesn't remove swirls, it fills them. I'm not one of the Z5 haters.....

I apply it twice per year and follow with Z2 and my black car looks great. No swirls.

My only complain is that the Z5 left some hazy patches on my car. Z6 doesn't seem to help remove the residue either. But it is over 90 outside and it is extremely humid, so maybe later tonight or tomorrow morning I can use Z6 to remove it...

After 3 coats Z5 has covered up about 98% of my swirls. Enough to make me happy. But...I have some smears on the top of my trunk and hood . Z6 is not removing it, maybe it will when the car cools down though

I'm looking forward to the pic. I'll admit that I've had marginal results when trying to fill swirls with Z-5 and would be very interested in trying out your 'thicker' applications technique.

In looking at your second pic, I seriously doubt those swirls are just in your Z layers.... Of course, a lot of it has to do with the camera-work.....but in any event, those dealer-induced swirls looked pretty bad! What's pretty amazing is that you were able to cover up 98% of those swirls!

Well I was able to squeak another 2 coats today, so that's four thick coats of Z5. It looks amazing now! Only thing I'm not happy about is that my paint has lots of streaks on it now. It doesn't seem to come off with Z6 either. When I gently rub my finger over the area then it smears it around, but rubbing gently but kinda furiously barely takes it out. I'm hoping that trying the Z6 again early tomorrow morning when it's cool outside will remove them... I hope. Maybe I just need to wash the car to remove the excess? I really want to remove the streaks and not have to rewash the car because I'd like to put a layor or two of Z2 tomorrow morning to lock in the Z5.

Here is the car with four coats of Z5. Some of the pictures you can kinda see the streaks that I'm having trouble buffing off. Like I said hopefully tomorrow I can get them off. But hopefully these pics show how the swirls are pretty well hid.

ahunt01,

After giving the layers you have a day to cure, try washing with Z7. That might take care of the remaining haziness that you're seeing . . .

Just a thought,

Tort

So if I just finished putting Z5/Zfx tonight then I shouldn't put on 1-2 layors of Z2/Zfx tomorrow morning?

If I can't remove the haziness tomorrow morning with Z6, then can I wash it tomorrow morning?

The smearing is probably a result of way to much product being applied.

Are you using ZFX? Z1?

Either way, let the product setup much longer than an hour. If you are applying it thickly, perhaps even overnight might not be a bad idea.

Try applying thinner coats if you're not willing to wait a long period of time for Z5 to set up.

No more than 3 coats over 24 hrs. Even then, I found the 3rd to be problematic at setting up sometimes.

In my experience, no more than 2 in a 24 hour period, wait 3 days, then start over again. Otherwise, I find smearing type issues.

Ahhhh, well I've done 4 coats in the past 24 hours, so maybe that's why it's being a pain? I'll wait on applying Z2 until 24 hours from now. In between then will the streaks become easier to take off since it's had more time to set?

To be honest, "slathering" on Z5 will cause streaking. This is more prevelent w/o the ZFX or Z1. It just has no time to really bond and dry. The thinner you apply it, the better the results! Yes it takes more coats, but you will NOT get the streaking. Also, if the air is heavy with humidity, it does take longer for it to dry. See Zaino application instructions as this is a know issue and cannot be helped.

Go back to putting it on thin. If it streaks, use a damp terry with water to re-wet and let it dry to a "finger test" and wipe off. If you still get streaks, and you've put it on thin, contact Sal directly on this.

You DID order the NEW Z5/Z2 didn't you?

You really want to see how well you're doing? Go and get the car under some Halogen lights or Metal Halide lights. They will show ALL defects!

Questions, contact Sal at Zaino.

Deanski
