Your opinions on my 3 step process

I know there are better products out there. However I've bought so many over the years I'm just going to make the best of some of them and I think that these are the best that I have in my stable. Well, I did buy one new product...:p

(now mind you that my car is but a few weeks old)

1. Meguiars Scratch X (mainly bought it for the slight swirls that were on my spoiler. Must have been the dealer:mad: )

2. Meguiars Gold Glass wax

3. Meguiars Hi-Tech Yellow wax (I know I reversed it. It should have been the Gold Glass last. Synthetic last right?)

This was on the spoiler, trunk, top rims of the doors, and the rear pillars.

For the hood I tried a slightly different approach for the hell of it.

1. Meguiars Scratch X

2. Meguiars Hi-Tech Yellow Wax

3. Meguiars Medallion Premium Paint Protection

I mainly wanted something easy I can do by hand. Although that Scratch X is pretty tuff to apply. It removed most of the swirls on the spoiler however still left a tiny bit of webbing. Not too noticeable and I can live with it. (lol..never thought I would say those words) Not sure if a my 3M SMR or Mequiars SMR would have done a better job.

Still need to do the rest of the car. Sheesh, this takes long!

Your first process is fine. GC has some cleaners in it so it should go on before the #26 which has no cleaners.

The second process needs to have the Medallion and #26 switched for the same reasons. Basically, Medallion and GC do the same thing so they should occupy the same position.

Using the Scratch X as a touch up for swirls is fine. The polish in GC and Medallion should take care of most everything else. If not, a SMR is in order. But I agree you should use up what you have as long as you are happy with the results.

So the synthetic then the carnuba? How long do you think this combo will last?

Also, I had a few scattered stubborn water spots on the hood that the X did not get out. You could only see them in different lighting angles. They were barely noticeable and I did not want to go back and use something stronger. When I decide to redo the hood what might I use to remove the water spots? It's hard not getting water spots. Since my motor is turboed the hood gets REALLY hot fast and will heat up any water droplets. If I use a coin op car wash by the time I pull out and dry the car, there are already water spots.:(

hmmmmmm.......Have you tried a 50/50 vinegar/water spritz ?

What color is your SRT ? I think you will eventually step up and away from Megs, theres quite a few products out there, that are superior, but if your really happy with it, go with it by all means.....

Thats quite a car you have there, I have heard they will go side by side with a SRT 10 Ram........

No, I haven't tried the 50/50. I might try it.

As I said earlier, I know there are better products out there compared to the Meguiars stuff but I have almost every product of their line, lol, and I just want to use it up and get my moneys worth.

My SRT-4 is Flame Red. I don't know about it keeping up with the SRT-10. If that truck ends up going quicker than a 14.0 in the 1/4, which I think it will, then I won't be able to keep up.

Until I get my Mopar Stage 2 turbo upgrade.:D

Well i think you'll get smoked top speed, but up to about 80mph, I have heard it will run side by side with the truck....Cant wait to see the SRT 10, I think I would detail one for free.................

yeah, not to steal your post evo77, but I was wondering last night if using Meg's GC topped with #26 would be a good combo...this instead of using #7 on a car with no swirls and very few scratches. I really don't need to hide or mask and imperfections, and the paint is well prepped and clayed, I just want a deep dark gloss...

Meguiars clay bar

Meguiars #9 for the swirls

Meguiars #7

Meguiars #26

Apply with a Porter Cable Ultimate Detailing Machine, you will not be disappointed.

I had a terrible time removing scratch x (i applied it to my whole hood (ouch) and there was just oily streaks afterwards)

and the yellow wax, was also a pita to remove.

maybe someone can offer some tips for this guy when using these products because they went in the trash can when i was done with it

As far as Meguiars and quality goes,

As an Autopian, I enjoy buying and trying exotic products from boutique manufacturers and other countries.

These products look different from Meguiars products, but that doesn't make them better. Meguiars makes excellent products. We should be thankful that we can walk into any Kmart or Pep boys and choose Meguiars or Mothers over the other products offered. Used properly, Meg's will match anything you can put it against.

The shine don't know where it came from, it just shines.

The hi-tech yellow wax should not be difficult to remove. It was VERY easy for me. What was difficult was the #7 and the #9, especially the #7.

Yes, the X is definitely hard to remove. Even when removed there was still some streaking. Probably the towel clogged up of the stuff. What I did was spray some Eagle One QD and wiped it down. Took any excess X off the paint and made it even more shinier.:)

Also, does anyone know if the X is suppose to be "worked" in the paint or just applied? I'm assuming worked because how else is suppose to remove scratches? However when you work an area it starts to dry up and get clumpy.

I think thats going to open up a jar a )*^$@!#%& !!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I use Megs about as often as plain wrap Toilet Paper.....Its good, if thats what your expecting and dont care for any other results.....Im not saying its inadequate, just not adequate for my needs.

I don't want to hijack the thread (he said as he hijacked the thread), but....

My point (and one that is especially important for beginners to understand) is that one need not apologize for using Meguiar's products. You don't have to use Pinnacle, or Zaino, or Poorboys or Clearkote to get Autopian results. Those products are great, and produce nuances and variations in appearance that we all can take delight in, but you can get a damn fine shine on your car with the proper use of Meguiar's.

I deliberately edited out "looks as good as" because that is so subjective. Instead, read it to mean "exceptional results are obtainable".

My recent experience is that the Meguiars products, when used properly, are excellent Autopian products. You (and I) may value certain characteristics that are in greater abundance in other products, but Meg's will nevertheless produce spectacular results in the proper hands.

I know, it's all opinion, but seeing is believing, and the shine doesn't know where it came from. And I know we'll agree that 97% of the shine comes from our own sweat and determination. For myself, I don't believe that ubiquity will always equal average.

I know where you're coming from, Patrick. I have a cabinet full of exotic stuff that looks great. But, in the last month I dedicated myself to learning the Meguiar's stuff, and its proper use and application, and y'know, IT looks great, too! Different, but still great!

I hope I've explained what I believe, without appearing confrontational. I love the esoteric stuff, mightily; but there's the possibility that there might be some esoteric stuff hiding in those little brown bottles with the cheap price tags, too.

Dedicate a month to discovery, you might be surprised... or not. It might be, for you, exactly what you remembered it as. But then, you'll have an excuse to polish your car again! (As if any of us needed an excuse, huh?)

in the spirit of Autopianism,

Tom

I'm new to the car detailing world but I've seen the price of exotics and it is way out of my league. The Meguiars series offers me good stuff with great results, in particular the "professional" series. The price of it can't be beat. It may not be as fancy as the wax Porsche uses but it is still a lot better than Armor All, Blue Coral, Kiwi and so on.
