Your opinion on products

O RLY?
When you detail any car (from a Ford Escort to an S500), what are your preferences product-wise? Do you use mostly "botique" products or pro products? (Auto Magic, Hi-Temp, Pro, etc.) I'm about to restock everything for the summer, and I was wondering which type I should use for each application. For example, use less-expensive professional products for dressings, compounds, polishes, and other "dirty work" and stick to botique stuff for LSPs and delicate surfaces like leather.

Your thoughts?

It all depends on what my customer wants. For the quicky jobs I use Four Star Professional Line and for the higher end jobs I will use Poorboy's or Four Star.

If you are making a living detailing, then it would make sense to have several classes of product. Unless of course ,you offer only a narrow band of pricing. There is some validity of having a top of the line detail as well as more modest priced jobs. IMHO, you might find a "standard" and build up from there.

I'm with mochamanz on this one. Even though I'm approaching it from a weekend warrior standpoint, I expect different clients to have different requirements. Some want long-lasting protection and high shine, some could care less about long-lasting and want a really deep wet glow. Some need heavy swirl removal and leveling, some need nothing but a light polish.

My "average joe" customers who just want their car to be clean usually get a AIO/SG(x1) or NXT(x1) LSP - it's easy and inexpensive. If they want a step up, they get Zaino(x3), maybe topped with p21s. If they want a natural carnuba glow or deep wet, they get just that - maybe p21s, 16, 26 or Souvern, depending on your clients durability and shine expectations and car color.

There are certainly some good middle of the road products for regular everyday work - dressing, wheel cleaning, metal polish, leather cleaner... These types of things are a little less important in terms of "boutique" items, I think. For example, Vinylex and 303 are pretty comparable. Armor All works great as a cheap wheel well dressing... P21S wheel cleaner is f*ing amazing, but might not be needed, so keep something cheap around...

Anyway, that's just my humble opinion. I'm no expert, but it works for me :)
