Your favorite way to clean sand out of carpet

The floor mats and carpet in my car are due for a cleaning, and after vacuuming the sand (from the beach) out of the mats, I can see tons of sand fly out of the mats when I shake them. What can I do with a shop-vac, brushes, folex, and other carpet cleaners to clean this sand out?

Hang mats up. Start at the top with compressed air and work your way down. Use pressure washer with a bit of all purpose cleaner and they are good as new with no elbow grease.

Why didn't I think of a pressure washer?! I'll try it tomorrow!

And even another little tid bit. Use an ice scraper to ring out the water after so they dry faster.

I don't have an ice scraper (living by the beach helps the whole "ice problem" :) ), but I'm fine with newspaper floor mats until my real mats dry.

HAHAHaaa never thought of that. So I won't wish you good luck with your "ICE" problems then either. hahah

Well thank you for considering wishing me good luck with my ice problems! hehehehehee

I've always had good luck with finding the closest brick wall that you can use without being yelled at, then take the mat to the corner and beat it on the wall. It's hard work, but they come out cleaner than with a vaccuum. It's old school but works very well.

I second the brick wall idea. I have a telephone pole in front of my house and have used that as well. Old tennis racquet works too.
