Just One More Coat
I have recently switched over to Geico, from AAA for just the coverage...I still have the AA tow package for those times needed.

I'm wondering who is using what for insurance and why?

I'm one of those that never claims anything..unless its a windshield that was cracked by a rock...I've not had an accident in decades...for that matter ever?

I have Travelers for my home, car (2000 Eclipse, full coverage) and truck (92 Ranger, liability only) and Progressive for my motorcycle (2002 Shadow Liability only). Travelers does not ensure motorcycles so I went with Progressive.

You might want to check on a towing coverage rider on your regular policy to replace your AAA towing package. It's usually very economical.

AAA seems to be OK if you use all their features, but we decided a long time ago that they weren't for us.

We have Nationwide and State Farm for various items.
The agent has a lot to do with my choice.

A good agent can show you what coverage you should look at and what coverage is the better value.
We carry high deductibles since it makes quite a difference in the overall premium.

Thanks...I have just the road side assistance and two thing with AAA...I find that its better service than anyone else that I have used!

They get there fast and its a no hassle thing...when I went threw Costco American Express insurance... I had to use them to tow my car to the shop...I had to call this 800 number give them all my info...then they had to call there local source and then call me back to tell who that was and then I waited for two hours or so...with AAA you call one number and they dispatch ASAP

Travelers here. Why? Because it is the best deal I have found. $108 a month full coverage on 2 cars, both older cars but still, 99 Accord and a 94 Mark VIII

I wonder if the Travelers is available in NJ? It seems like a really good deal. Right now I have Progressive which seems to be one of the cheaper carriers in Nj. Here we have the highest rates in the nation. I pay $100/mo just for liability on my 94 Benz with a flawless driving record.

Hi
Alittle off the beaten path, but insurance companies are now accessing credit reports and basing rates on credit score another slap in the face to the low income and less fortunate people, the rich get richer and the well rest of us suffer the consequence, living in a econmic poorer community the effects of gas prices has hurt me dearly, my concerns are for the elderly on fixed income they are going to have a hard time this winter, I apologize, but get concerned everytime I see what big business and politic is doing.

I carry my home and auto insurance with State Farm. No particular reason, I just have. I pay $309 a month for full coverage on all 3 of my cars with a $250.00 deductible. 97 Bonneville, 2000 Integra GSR, 2009 Sonata Limited. My motorcycle I went with Esurance for liability only @ $75 a year. 85 Maxim 700CC. I am thinking of transferring the title of the Bonneville into my son's name and calling Progessive and putting liability only, $500.00 deductible. Since I am the one that will be driving the Bonneville, I am not too concerned about this. I think we will save a considerable amount of money this way on my son's insurance.

I would not equate low income with poor credit scores. Poor credit scores come from people who don't know how to manage their debt and live beyond their means and that is certainly not limited to low income people. In my town (Louisville, KY) there has been an explosion in the number of foreclosures in the highest end parts of town because people were buying homes they had no business buying.

The insurance companies basing premium rates on credit scores has nothing to do with "the Man trying to hurt the less fortunate". It has to do with the overwhelming statistics which say that people who are wreckless with their credit are also wreckless with on the road. Also people with better credit scores are better at paying their premiums on a timely basis making the collection process easier for insruance companies so they don't mind giving those timely payers a break because of that.

The media likes to play up the big bad insurance companies are out to hurt the little guy because is sells more papers, attracks more viewers, etc. In reality, even someone with low income who is willing to stay within their means, keep their debt low and stay on top of payments can earn a good credit rating and get better insurance rates on their older,(hopefully) lower priced cars.

I use USAA for all my insurance and use AAA for travel protection (towing, etc). I got an umbrella policy for liability that covers house, car, etc.

AAA has been great in our areas since i have been towed twice (water pump died, gas line broke!!)

I recently replaced a windshield. It only cost $225 and did not use insurance. I was surprised.

Travelers is available in every state, especially NJ. I'm an Auto Appraiser to Travelers but I'm insured with Progressive (which was the cheapest). 1 thing people AND AGENTS don't know about is how each company they represent and sell policies for handle their claims in respect to replacement parts and repairing vehicles. Allstate is probably the worst company to have if you get in an accident(remember Allstateinsurancesucks.com?). Progressive is almost as bad, but because I'm in the business I know how to iron out all the red tape and get what's needed. You guys would be shocked with the Aftermarket parts (especially crash safety parts) they force you to use even if your vehicle is brand new. People usually learn the hard way about this; when they make a claim. Don't just think the only thing you'll be forced to pay is your deductible.

As far as other comanies are concerned, I feel we pay for alot more. We're very customer-centric and make sure everyone's satisfied. Also, we don't use any aftermarket crash parts, don't take betterment and cover aftemarket items permanantly attached to the vehicle 100% without a ryder.

USAA has been fantastic for claims. If you qualify, they are great. Surveys in Consumer Reports show USAA was always up there with Amica for satisfaction.

You're right about USAA. They take really good care of their customers. What's funy about Amica is that they really don't employ alot of adjusters so claims get farmed out to Independent Appraisers. The absolute best company to make a claim with is Chubb.
