You Paranoid or Not?

Do you have concerns about posting to much info on the net? I mean at this site I have posted quite a bit of personal info, car licence plate, city, state etc.

On other sites people seem in general to be paranoid about posting any personal info...even when they are posting with a made up name.

I know that you want to keep yourself safe, but what harm could come of someone posting...beemerboy, sonoma county ca....I don't thing that anyone would be able to find me based on that:lmfao

Really how much info are you willing to give up or feel safe in posting on any site?

Its funny I never think about it to often, but when I read about people getting their identity stolen I wonder what if. I wouldn't post my telephone number and or address.

Have you heard about that guy who drives around in a 18 wheeler and he has his Social Security number in big numbers on the side, because he is that confident you can't steal his identity.

No I have not heard of that guy....I'm with you on posting your address or phone number.

The rest about state and or city, I see no issues especially if you are using a anonymous name

I don't worry too much about it. I am a victim of identity theft, and the best guess the investigators with the authorities I filed with came up with is that the "illegal immigrant" guessed my SSN over 9 years ago and had been using it his whole time from his migration from CA to Pelham, AL.

Needless to say, something like that will change your mind and stance on leniency toward "border jumpers/swimmers."

What the heck is that avatar about? its scarring me

IIRC, he was arrested for something pretty aweful.

I don't really worry about identity theft on the internet. If someone wants your information bad enough, they'll get it. I won't post my address or phone number, but, I've posted a ton of information about myself over the years.

Jared -
I agree with beemerboy - your avatar is highly disturbing. What is he/she/it?

I think posting personal stuff on ANY public webpage is dangerous. I try to keep my information to myself as much as possible out of several reasons:

A) keeping information from the public
EVERYBODY out there has access to the forum entries. Just look at the number of non -registered users. We are not a secluded community of friends here, just b/c we are registered and post fairely often. Au contraire! We are on a silverplate in the middle of a hughe crowd that can look at every aspect of our conversation.

B) Even if point A) was not the case - even if we WERE a secluded forum - there are 8000+ members here. I do not know ANY of them personally. Consequently I have no idea at all that what they are telling me about their personal life is true. There could be thieves and mass murderers posting here for all I know (what LSP would a mass murderer use :hmmm:)
On the other hand none of you can know if my information is true. Do I have a wife? Do I have a kid? Do I really live in Albuquerque? Or is my identity totally made up and I am lurking in this forum b/c I hope that one of you is trusting enough to post his SSN?
Sounds stupid? But you just don't KNOW.
Better safe than sorry.
