Yet another truck story

NattyBumppo

Strange name, ain't it?
I must have done somthing to anger the Detailing Gods or something. After a brief but intense rain my son and I went outside to dry off my car. Once again, it was glistening clean. Then we set out to pay a visit to a friend who recently opened up an ice arena about 10 minutes from our home. My son will be playing hockey out of this arena come the fall so we just wanted to drop by and say hello to the guy (I went to high school with him) and chew that fat for a while.

On the short trip over we discovered the winding side road we took is under construction. I rounded a corner to see traffic stopped while waiting for the flag girl to wave traffic through and wouldn't you know it, I end up behind a quarry dump truck! I had nowhere to go, no way to get out of Dodge. When we finally started moving I spent the next 3 miles having red clay mud kicked up all over my freshly detailed white car :doh I stayed as far back as I could without coming to a screaching halt but since there was traffic behind me, I was basically screwed.

When we got home there was Natty on the driveway, in the rain washing his car:wall

If I had a beater nothing like this would ever happen.

I thought I was the only one with that kind of luck! I had a city highway mtce. truck drop a rock on my freshly detailed car and put a down to the metal scratch on my car. I was overjoyed the entire day afterwards. I feel your pain Natty!

that's what you get for getting a car instead of a truck:lmfao :D It would never have happened in Big Red :nono

Natty,

When I lived in central New Jersey, my daily commute took me down I-287 between Exits 1 and 5. For some reason, there were more dump trucks and construction vehicles on that road than any other road I've driven on. Over the course of two years, my silver Volvo got clobbered. The front bumper and hood were chip city, the glass headlights were replaced several times, and the windshield had multiple encounters with baseball sized rocks.

After I took a new job, I specifically looked for a shorter commute. My commute is now 4 miles each way. There is so much traffic that I never get above 30 mph. Guess what? Very little in the way of rock chips now! :)

Two things I've learned today.......... don't stand near Steve in a thunderstorm, and don't let Natty borrow your new vehicle! :lmfao

NOTE FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE............ never follow to close to a dump truck that has just filled the hopper of a paving machine! :angry

Thats one of few times it is good to have a black truck:lol

Ema . i live in jersey. The reason there were som many dump trucks on thast road is b/c of the BREAN rock quarry on I287 i drive past it everyday also. the dust blow off is terrible, in my car it just sticks to everything on my bike if my visor isnt down its like diving into a bucket of dirt. The trucks now have police escorts and can not exceed a certain mile per hour. they are also covered extremly well. Alot of people were sendin detial and auto body bills to the company so they could pick up the tab. Its alot cheaper and better for buisness the way they do it now. And as for the red clay all over a white car. Thats the worst. I had an s2000 i parked outside while i was in a big backyard party. Windy day, but just detailed the thing .. shinned the rims for hours and everything. well when i came out it was speckled red. Millions upon millions upon millions of little red specs. And they were tr to the touch. The nighbor to the party wich i had noticed earlier in the day was sealing his deck with a home use paint sprayer. Well the wind took the specles and placed them riteon my nice whit clean car. The nieghbor not knowing i was a detialer footed the bill for my 440 dollar paint cleaning detail. I sold the car shortly after due to the fact i was sick of lookin at the damn thing. It took me 2 days and a **** load of product to get thos specs off. just a story i though would make everyone shake thier heads in dissapointment.

Up here we have Mount Hope Rock Products quarry in Rockaway and Tilcon in Allamuchy (which is the one that got me). Between those two quarrys it seems I am always within striking distance of one of their trucks.
