Yet another NXT review

First of all let me say thank you tall all you autopians. Before I found this site I though I was doing a great job keeping my cars clean and shiny. Boy was I ever wrong. I have learned a ton from lurking the past few months and I have you to thank.

I picked up my Pilot about 10 months ago and have been doing my best to clean her without introducing swirls. Well I haven't been completely successful but for a car that is nearly a year old she is in pretty good shape.

I don't have a PC and probably couldn't justify the cost to my better half. I have been washing with GC and a lamb's wool mit, drying with a MF and, up until today, waxing with with GC paste.

I was considerring buying Zaino or Meg's professional line, until I started reading testimonials and seeing the result of NXT.

I finally found the Tech Wax at Wally World yesterday so I picked up a bottle and a bottle of the Quick Wax.

This morning I went about my novice detail.

1. Washed with GC.

2. Clayed with Mother's clay.

3. Washed once again to remove the clay residue.

4. Dried with a MF (I don't remember where I picked it up).

5. Applied one coat of NXT with the foam applicator from the box and removed with another MF.

I haven't had a chance to dress the wheels yet but plan to later.

Sorry I didn't take any before pics. I'll have to make multiple posts because I don't know how to post more than one pic per post, sorry.

Overall I was very impressed with the NXT. This is by far the best wax I've ever used. I was hoping it would have a little more filling properties, maybe after the second coat.

Well, once again, thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I'm no autopian yet but I hope to continue to improve with practice.

That looks great! the metallic really stands out...

I applied NXT to my black truck and it looked great then for fun I applied a second coat about 12 hours later after the first coat had time to setup, it shined even better. I don't know just another idea or something you might try.

This just goes to show that taking a new vehicle with a decent paint job and using a good store bought product can deliver high quality results. Getting to the next level will take a big step up in technique, effort, and price.

I'll bet the Pilot looks better than 90% of the cars on the road. Well done :up :up

Thanks for your responses all! This will probably be as close to an autopian I'll ever be. The Pilot is my wife's daily driver for carting the kids around and is parked outside on the street. I just don't think putting all the effort and money into the tools needed for a true perfect finish is justified, yet...

I do plan on applying a second layer of NXT tomorrow after the 24 hour cure period. I know that Mike recommended not allowing water go get on the first coat while it cures but since this is an outside car, and with all the dew we get overnight, I think I'll have to at least wipe the car down in the morning.

Great Job and nice pictures.

Save up for a PC. Those minor swirls you photographed will be elimination quite easily with a product like DACP or the Menzerna twins. That's probably the only expense I can see to get you where everyone is trying to go - Ultimate Shine.

You can try other more expensive products ( its is quite fun) but from your results so far the difference will only be slight and not detectable by others.

Let us know how the durability works out. Meguiar's has not made any claims so we need that kind of info for those that require prolong protection.

Welcome to Autopia and car care addiction. :wavey

Looks good. :) Although from what I can tell it has little swirl filling abilities. #9 before NXT would probably work pretty good. You can do some good stuff without a PC. Hopefully the durability of NXT is good.

Excellent point Corey.:bow

#9 or even better Clearkote Vanilla Moose by hand well hide and eliminate most of those swirls quite well on a silver-grey metallic.

One of my customers has an Acura MDX that color. I really like it! You got some really good reflections off it.

I detailed that MDX in fact about 5 days ago using American Shines California Clear Coat Glaze (that name is waaaaaay toooooo long!) and finished it off with NXT. I agree with the others that using a good swirl remover or even a glaze prior to NXT will significantly reduce or even remove all the spider swirls, giving you an even deeper shine. Still, for just using one product, your Pilot came out very nice. :up

What you have done is IMO the perfect job for NXT. The product is designed to bring those results, and it succeeds beautifully!

You are ahead of not just 90% of the vehicles, but probably more like 99%.

Lots of us have cars with spidermarks and swirls, btw. The only day mine doesn't have any is the day after I do a 100%er, and that's only before I pull it out of the garage. In between 100%ers, the goal is to slow the buildup as much as possible. That regimen costs nothing, as it is not a product but a process. ANYTHING you need to know about process is a click away here at Autopia!

This is the friendliest auto group I've ever found; even members with diametrically opposite beliefs and techniques and product preferences share the same goal, and will agree that in the end the car either shines, or it doesn't.

Oh, btw yours DOES.

There's a guy here, TOGWT, who's sig is "Experience unshared is knowledge wasted." You've just shared your experience and added to the knowledge base of Autopia!

Welcome!

Hey, I try. :o I don't care for NXT at the moment (first impressions are a lot I guess), but I think it's definitely a product you can get very good results with. My gripes are mainly personal. Such as the NXT always likes to leave the toilet seat up and never gave me back my undies from last weekend. :nono

Somebody bow downed to me! I feel so loved. :)

American Shines California Clear Coat Glaze (that name is waaaaaay toooooo long!)

What are you talking about? That can be easily shortened to ASCCCG! ;)

Nice work on the Pilot. I used the NXT for the first time tonight as well. I couldn't wait for my Meg's shipment to come (probably Monday). Now the Meg's NXT will go in the Wal*Mart box back to the customer service department for a refund. I decided Wal*Mart deserved extending me credit for wax :xyxthumbs

I echo the VM opinions. The clay is going to take you back down to clearcoat and most any glaze will fill in those seemingly minor swirls. The NXT can take care of a few of them. The test mule tonight was a 96 LS400 with a fairly recent (2 months) PwC and EX times 5. I noticed the NXT didn't wipe off as easily as I had believed from other posters (PC, finishing pad, 3-3.5, no additional pressure). There is a slight filling quality and the slickness is better than EX, from what my finger can remember. Plus, the smell made me eat some so I feel funny now. NXT smoothies are not good for you.

LOL, :bow

I'll say one thing, I'm not gonna dislike you because we disagree about waxes!
