Yet ANOTHER Microfiber Question

Okay guys...I'm not kidding when I say that I have OCD....lol....I do...but here goes



Okay...I wash my microfibers together...i DO use different towels for different things...i.e. wheels....paint...drying..but I DO wash them together



Also, I have been washing them on HOT..which now I've read will cause the towels to not be as soft...i.e. mar my paint?



Also, after I wash..I dry on low....after washing...and then after drying...I DO lay these towels out and inspect for debris within the fibers



Am I screwing up?.....Should I just throw away all these towels and start new?...I didn't buy the cheap ones...and I would hate to have wasted this money...but I am very worried

You NEED to wash them on hot to get all the wax, sealant, and dressing out of them. Hot water, nor hot drying in a lot of our experience, won't cause the towels to be "not as soft" (this is usually due to water hardness problems, etc.).



Most of us wash our task-separated towels separately...I keep my glass towels separate, and the drying towels, the rest I generally wash together, but I may do a pre-soak or pre-wash by group (like washing the towels with interior or tire dressing on them in a bucket to get the "gross" soil out of them).



And I commend you for the post-wash debris check. And no, you don't need to throw your towels out.
 
There's a lot of contradicting MF information out there, so I'll tell ya what works for me...



I inspect for debris within the fibers BEFORE washing and I also check the washer as well. I wash with cold water and a clean rinsing soap like Woolite. When they're done being washed, I pull them out and inspect again. After I inspect the dryer they go in on low heat. I don't get them 100% dry. They get to be about 99.5% (if that makes any sense). I believe it also keeps them soft and new feeling. I inspect once more, fold and put them away. Yes, it is tedious, but I have spent a small fortune on towels and don't feel like spending any more $. Plus, I am OCD too. I think we all are, lol. Oh, I wash "paint only" towels, interior towels and wheel/engine/tire towels separately.
 
Well.. I will wash everything separately now...but being that I have inspected my recently washed towels.....and they have no debris visible with the naked eye...lol..then I shouldn't need to discard them, right?



And as for OCD...I REALLY do have it...haha....which makes things like owning a new car another thing for my checklist of things to obsess over....

i wash in warm water with liquid detergent, and add vinegar on the last rinse cycle (may do another rinse cycle if there is soapy water still). then into the dryer on the lowest heat setting with no fabric softener/dryer sheets...
 
Yea, don't throw them away. If you don't feel comfortable using them on paint, use them on interior surfaces. They should still be perfectly good. Here, take a brand new, clean cd/dvd and wipe the back with one of the towels you're skeptical of. If it scratches, don't use it on paint. Everything else is all good.
 
On the laundary tags of many of my microfiber towels, it is suggested that the towels be washed in cool water. I am not saying that microfiber towels should never be washed in hot water. Simply follow the instructions on the laundary tags if in doubt. I'd avoid hot to reduce energy expense and to potentially prolong the life of my microfiber towels.



I handwash, handrub, and soak all my microfiber towels individually in Spray & Wash or Shout before washing them altogether in one big load in the washing machine. Handwashing them allows me to get all the polishing dust and stains off them before giving them a final wash. Prewashing them ensures that all the stains and debris are removed prior to final washing.



I line dry my microfiber towels because I am fed up with expensive electric bills.

LOL...that made me laugh...you know, my brother and father have had to go through years of me obsessing over things and needing to be reassured...I don't include my mother in this statement because she would always just tell me to give her a break...haha
 
BTW...I just dropped 160$ on some more detailing supplies...including microfibers ...lol....not to mention the 2 compound buckets of supplies I already have
 
Hey Focus 2069...I can't seem to get those pictures of your car out of my head...lol...what an awesome car...I was pondering trading in my DD for a new Focus...but finances are tight right now..PLUS I had a hard time finding a dealer who had coupes....
 
Well...I'm pretty much tapped out after getting the GT500...plus I 'm stuck....er...live...in a condo....lol....need a house with a driveway and garage .....
