Hey there, I just got off the phone with Yellowpages and I talked to them and it sounds good and all but now I'm having second thoughts because it is so expensive per month. (like 360+ dollars for 90 people viewing my page monthly) I'm not sure what to do, has anyone done this before, is it worth it? Right now I'm using adwords and having been getting much business, but been seeing clicks. Not sure what more I can do. (it is winter, so in the summer hopefully more clients) Any advice, experience, anything about Yellowpages and maybe what you do to increase your business would help. Thanks.

I hear nothing but bad things about YP. I seriously can't remember the last time I used them to find anything? I would suggest spending that money on SEO. There's always Yelp, 4 Square and local companies that can help your ranking too. You might also want to track how and where your current customers are coming from too.

Thanks David, I appreciate your reply. I don't want to harm my business and lose money, so that is why I was asking. Also, I already purchased a two year SEO plan with godaddy. Should I do more advertising then? I'm only using Google at the moment and I've been getting clicks, but not many callers. Actually only had one customer and the other cancelled. Should I spend money to advertise on Bing and Yahoo too? Thanks for the reply.

A very important question......If I Google your city & "Detailing" are you on the 1st page? Are you in the top spot?

My YellowPages, Google+ and Google Adword Ad is on the first page, but not my website.

If everything else of yours is on the top page, it shouldn't be hard at all to get your website up there. Do you have a lot of local competition? Are you watching your inbound traffic to see if there are a lot of people in your area looking up detailers online?

Best bet is to focus in on your target audience and find where they look.

Also, feel free to use the forum to help your SEO too. Linkbacks have helped people quite a bit because how highly we are ranked.

That sounds pretty steep.  I pay about $55 per month for a basic YP ad (print ad about the size of half a business card) plus an ad in the online directory.  For the secondary phone book in my area I pay like $12 a month for the same deal.

that's $4 bucks a VIEW, not even a JOB!!!!  how can you possibly think that is worth it?  Where are they getting these numbers..$360 for 90 people???

But I would steer clear and look into something else.  I am having my site redone this week (I cant do it, I gave up!) and there will be a lot of SEO attached to it and he is going to help me get it going properly and strong.  If you want his number, email, then PM me.

Right there shows where your focus should be.

Your website needs to be top, followed by pages like Google

Yelp and YP. This means that you need a comprehensive marketing strategy.

Start blogging and use "backlinks". This means linking to your

website on blogs and social sites. There is much more strategy needed

but this is a start.

Aqua, you should really check out the 2014 Link Juice thread,

and start by putting all of your websites onto one page.  Keep editing that

page and adding more and more of your links.

Each one of your links should have your main website on it.

Now, each time that you are loading the page and editing your post, then you

are promoting your main site.  Just doing this is much better than paying for

advertising.

Sure, paid advertisement is not a bad thing.  If you have enough money where

350 or 360 dollars is "nothing" to you, then paying to acquire customers is a smart

decision.  If the money meant nothing to you, then that is a good trade off for the time

that is needed to market your own website.  If you are in a situation like mine, then you

have extra time and not money, and marketing your own website makes the most sense.

1. Get all of your links set up

2. Determine your main keywords (google tool)

3. Send Traffic to your site.  (SafeLists, Text Ad Exchanges, Traffic Exchanges)

4. Never underestimate Social Media

For the best Social Media advertising, you need to find someone with a Facebook account

with lots of people on it.  Radio stations work well for this, but there are many other alternatives.

What you do then, is offer a FULL Detail (worth like 275 dollars), and people get entered in

a chance to win the detail just by liking or sharing one of your posts or pics on Facebook.

People go bonkers for this.  Many different companies use this type of advertising.  I know

that members of my family liked and shared many posts just to win a dental cleaning with

whitening treatment.

Each time someone "Likes" or "Shares" your content on Facebook, they are instantly advertising

to all of their list.  This is some of the most valuable advertising that you can get.  What I mean

by this is that Google is going to view this Social Activity as high worth traffic.  This is what is

going to help you the most.  In your case, just make sure that you are promoting the correct

link.  You want to be promoting your main site, and not one of the YellowBook pages.

I am going to be started a wiki about advertising and marketing, and how to transition that

into helping your business.  It is quite easy, although it is a MUCH wider scheme than what I

have described in this lengthy article.

There is a great similarity between Detailing and Marketing.  In both of these fields, people

who get a little bit of information view themselves as experts.  While people view themselves

as experts, we all know that it takes MUCH longer to learn all of the little facets that go into

doing this job.  The same applies for Marketing.  Sure, they understand some of the basics,

but do they really understand everything that goes into promoting a website?  Most of them, no.

I have been studying Marketing for over 10 years, and I am still a novice in many aspects.

Be careful who you pay to do marketing for you.  This marketing can be done incorrectly,

and can actually damage your ranking.  Feel free to message me anytime, if you have any questions.

While much of the marketing work you can do yourself, there is some that it is much easier

just to pay someone to do it for you.  This is where gig sites like Fiverr come in handy.  There are

people that are much more adept at this field than you.  If a task is going to take you 2 hours to finish,

would it not be in your best interest to pay someone 5 dollars to free up 2 hours for you?

Heck, if you know exactly what to ask for, wouldn't it be worth 5 dollars to free up one hour for you?

Your time is better spent doing detailing for the one hour, as your time is worth much more than

5 dollars an hour.

Do not get overwhelmed.  This is all a learning process.  Just take it slow and make a concentrated

effort to improve your business daily (or weekly).  Just remember that the most important thing to your

business is your online profile, or how you look to others on the internet.
