Yellow paint marker

I recently replaced the hood and drivers side fender on my daughters car. The salvage yard used the paint markers to number it. Does anybody know what to use to get this off?? I've tried everything from mineral spirits to gas to megs #83. I finally scrapped it off with my finger nail then polished it out, but there is still a shadow of the number in the paint. Thanks!

clay? what is with everyone trying to use clay. can you clay carpet too?

Should have used tar & wax remover to remove the lettering, normally the pens they use are of a light painted material. as far as the ghost lettering you can wet sand then buff or try buffing first. depending on how long the lettering sat on the paint and how new the paint is you can use a heat gun, this works for some types of ghost lettering effect depends on how new the paint and how long the object was sitting on the paint. just be careful not to burn the paint in all the above suggestions, except the tar & wax remover method.

clay?

After trying all I could think of I used Barkeepers Friend with lots of water. The paint was already terribly swirled so that was not an issue, plus I'm going to paint the hood and fender. Thanks for all the help!
