Yellow CCS pad and SSR2.5

When I bought my 6.5" CCS starter kit I got a yellow, white, and black pad.



My current plans for full paint restoration are



Yellow CCS + Poorboys SSR2.5

White CCS + Poorboys PPwC

Black CCS + EX sealer



Im just wondering if the Yellow + SSR2.5 combo is going to be way too rough for most paints? Do I risk any paint damage or burn through using a porter cable?

Forget the yellow pad and get some orange and white 5.5"pads (you want more then 1 each). The 6.5" are just too big for the PC. They will work but not near as well as 5.5" pads.



The yellow are just too harsh.

I've been polishing and detailing my own vehicles for years, but I'm now just starting to do it semi-professionally for other people. I decided to buy a new polisher and all new pads and compounds, I didn't realize how harsh the yellow was when I bought it all!



I have 4 cars to do this week for customers in a buddies shop, none of them are going to be very badly damaged. Do you think I should sub a White/SSR2.5 combo in and apply my pro polish with a Megs tan finishing pad instead?



In what case WOULD I want to use the Lake Country yellow CCS pad?
 
The Yellow has its place, its not a wasted pad. One day you'll find something the Orange and a compound just cant cut. Ive used the yellow many a time, with great success as well as lots of time left on the clock.......

In most cases of neglect, you wont need yellow, but there are times when you really need some correction, and fast cutting. Yellow is the pad, and you'll be happy its in your arsenal.....

With the 2nd poster, I do agree 5.5's are the way to go. I use 4" quite a bit as well, but 5.5's the majority of time....
 
Ive just ordered two orange and one white 5.5 inch pad from eshine, thanks for the suggestion guys.



Tomorrow Im doing a 2002 SX2.0, its been neglected and probably only waxed once or twice in it's life. It is completely covered in swirl and brush marks, the paint is a dark red/burgundy. Does this sound like the kind of situation where the yellow could come in handy?



I only ask because I will probably be waiting until next week for the orange pads, but I have these three cars to do before there. If the paint is in poor condition, do I run any risk of damaging the vehicle is im using it with SSR2.5 on a PC and speed 5 with medium/light pressure and a yellow pad?
