X Rated brake dust

I had a BMW SUV today and when I took a look at the wheels I knew I was in trouble. After attempting to clean them on the car, I decided to remove one wheel at a time. As you can see in the before pic, it was nasty. The only way to really get deep dish wheels clean to my standards, was to remove the wheels. [:)]

Yea what did you use? I have 2 rims from an Xi that need to be polished so I can use em as Coffee Tables! :)

I normally charge additional $25 per wheel, but since this customer did not request this ( I made the decision myself) we meet half way, so he paid me $50 extra. I used auto magic (non-acid) wheel cleaner, I think it is high in alkaline. All I know is you spray it on, wait a couple of minutes and it melts away dirt /brake dust like nothing I've ever used. I had to do it two times due to the build up. Used a plastic net type sponge to clean it away. I really wish I had a lift in my shop, so I can do work like this all the time without the hassle. Yikes  . Typical BMW brake dust.

Sad that is so true. :(

Nice work, Gary! I normally don't remove the wheels unless it is requested or there are areas of the wheels I can't access-and yes, like you, I charge extra.

Auto Magic's Magnificant is incredible stuff!!! I NEVER have to hand wash the wheels on any of my vehicles when I use it. It is far the best non-acid wheel cleaner on the market.

Really nice work :xyxthumbs

I need to pull mine before winter and do the same.

Maybe I'll give Automagic a try.

Reminds me of my own rims:

Here's a before/after of the backsides of my rims. I had to resort to steel wool (and a brass brush in places) along with Orange Clean and Mean Green. I even gave the rims a shot of oven cleaner and it didn't even make a dent in the stuff.

Afterwards, I put a coat of NXT followed by a coat of #16 that was allowed to sit overnight. Here are my results:

:bow Wow Auto Magic wheel cleaner. Must be some tuff stuff.
Yes where can you get it? I have been meaning to do this all summer but my laziness and fear of my families reaction and ending up in a straight jacket has kept me from it.

Don M,

What's up with the clean ring on your wheel? It looks like something hitting the rim while its spinning, or is it just the picture?

That's actually a groove molded into the rim. What looks like a clean spot is really just mud that is 'stuck' in the groove.

"Ahhh, I see" said the blind man. I was just checking. Wouldn't want you to be driving down the road and have a caliper come apart on you or anything!
