The buffer really does make a difference! My daughters 90 Mazda MX6 hadn't seen wax from when she was bought until I bought it for her 2 years ago! My sister bought it new and took it to the spray wash 4 times a year.

The paint on top of the car was so bad there was absolutely no reflection whatsoever! Being dark gray it faded and oxidized so much I thought it would need to be repainted. Using my Craftsman 2 speed buffer I smoothed the paint but there really was no change in the look of it.

Now using my new PC 7424, the sonus pads, and the exact same products I used with the Craftsman you couldn't believe the difference! Not only did it shine but you could read writing on the boxes on a near by shelf. The pics I took are too big to post (would anyone host these for me?) and should have been taken outside. But due to time restraints I could only get the hood done and a spot on the roof.

I started out with the yellow pad and 3M foam pad paint polish, 3 times on the hood. Then I went to Blackfire polish and the white pad, followed by the Blackfire sealant and the blue pad. The shine was amazing, far from perfect but if you saw how bad it was before it would have brought a tear to your eye!

After that I got greedy and used some Dupont sealant I have that shines like crazy but didn't work well with the Blackfire. It smeared, streaked, and didn't come off totally. But this was my first use of the PC 7424 and my daughters hood was a test. Someday when I get more time I'll take a few days and do the whole car!

I put the link to the pics in my first post, I didn't take any before pics of the hood because I didn't realize how well it would turn out. On the roof you can see how it looked though. The shine was a lot better before I tried using the Dupont wax over the Blackfire. I'll take some paint cleaner and start over on the finish coats.

Thanks Velo on the heads up with Photobucket!

This my test car, her paint was so bad even if I messed up in wouldn't make any difference. I'm new to the machine polishing world. But now I'm addicted to my PC 7424. Did a friends car, worked on my daughters some more. Then sitting there looking at my wifes Chrysler 300, I started on that. 3 cars in one day! Then I saw my garden tractor out of the corner of my eye...... :waxing:

Looks much better. Now all you need to do is get some real polish and go at it again. Try some heavy cut polish on that bird poop etching on the hood.

And a few coats of Mother's Back to Black will help out those windshield wiper arms a lot.

Thanks, I've been reading on here trying to decide what products I need to do the job right. Just when I think I know what I'm getting I read some more and find another to consider!

I know I have little idea exactly what to do on my daughters paint, but it helps to get a little praise that I'm heading in the right direction!

The wiper arms are toast, rust and the one sticks up not making contact with the windshield. I'm going to remove them to sand and repaint.

Whew, it's very hot and humid outside, as I hear it is everywhere. But I got my daughters car done as far as the paint. Still need to clean the black trim and do the windows and interior.

Her paint was toast, had the reflective properties of flat gray paint with wax applied that couldn't be removed. As suggested by PB2themax I used a more aggressive polish, which helped quite a bit. However there were spots so bad that only a repaint will help.

I used:

mothers claybar

Meguiars #83

3M perfect it 05996

Blackfire Gloss enhancing polish

Blackfire Sealant

1 section I applied Prestone synth wax over as a test

As bad as this paint is and this being my first real detail plus first time with my PC 7424 I'm very happy with the results. My daughter was very happy and that made me feel good! She wanted pics of it to post on her MySpace.
