Would this be a good idea

All first-time customers are required to purchase a FULL DETAIL.

I really think this would be a good idea seeing as most people probably stick with the same detailer time after time.

Also, If someones car has incredible amount of trash, overspray, oxidation, swirl marks, etc in the paint, and just wanted a wash and wax, the car would end up looking horrible, and would make it appear as if my skills are sub-par.

That way, I could do a complete restoration/transformation of their car, which will give me the ultimate platform for future quick washes and waxes.

It might seem a little pushy to a customer, but its really in their (and my) best interest, dont you think?

I agree you should push the full detail for first time clients. Save the wash and wax for maintenance visits.

One thing I have learned about being self employed is that the customers are not always right. I would never do a half a$$ job just because that's what the customer wanted. Problem is, it may be fine to them, but you never know who else maybe checking out your work. I say do it right, or don't do it at all. It's your reputation on the line, not the theirs.
