Worst Vechicle I ever cleaned

Well, guys I now have enough sand to create a beach in my backyard. One of my neighbors brought me an F350 he recieved from his brother for free. The truck was used for landscaping business and his brother is a heavy smoker. Since my neighbor has a new baby he wanted the vechicle cleaned and smoke removed. Apparently everyone in the neighborhood gave him suggestions to remove the smoke - Azone, charco, frebrezze, and etc. None worked - then someone suggested he bring the vehicle to me. He asked me to see what I could do.

The first photo is the interior and I vaccumed for almost three hours and still was getting some sand. After removing as much as I could I started cleaning the interior starting with the headliner and working my way down. I worked on the interior for 8 HOURS. Then stopped since I was beat. I started the next morning with steam cleaning the interior which took 4 hours to get clean. There were some stains I could not remove since the owner had the stains for almost 3 years. After cleaning the interior which included dressing vinyl and reconditioning the leather I worked on the outside - the owner only wanted the inside done, but I could not in good mind give it back to the customer without the outside at least washed and waxed.

I blew the customers mind when he picked it up. No smell of smoke, gunk or etc. It was as the interior was brand new. His wife said not to tell his brother or he would want the truck back. I can say that was the worst vechicle I ever cleaned and made some good money - should have charged him more, but my kids are playing in the beach I created from all the sand. Here is a little of what he said to the whole HOA in our neighborhood:

Hello. You might remember a post from me asking for suggestions on removing smoke stench from a truck cab. A couple of you wrote back with good suggestions which I tried but nothing made a dent in the 3-years of chain smoking(my brother not me) that permeated the seats, carpet and roof covering. So I took it to our good neighbor Rick Springer. It's unbelievable the effort he puts in to detailing cars. The truck can now be classified as smoke-free - as well as dirt-, sand-, grime- and other gross stuff-free. And it shines like new. If you've driven by the big green machine in the past couple of weeks (in front of the pool) drive by again and take a look. Wow is all I can say. The leather is clean and soft just like new. And I can now put my little boy in it without worrying he's going to smell like he's been out clubin' all night (not a good smell for a 5 month old - can you say CPS). Point is that if you've got a car that's looked (or smelled) better in a previous life, Rick is the man. He's really passionate about this stuff. You'll be amazed at the things he can do. And he's a great guy to boot.

It sure made me feel that I am in the right business - even though it is tough getting started.

16. Polished mags, treated tires and wheel wells.

17. Go over entire truck inside and outside to see if I missed anything which took about an hour.

AWESOME WORK!!!!!!!! Man I hope you charged A LOT for that. That is a ton of work, but definitely an Autopian job well done!

First of all nice work.

Secondly I run a used car dealership and you should see some of the cars that we have to repo. I honestly don't know how they get a car that dirty. I wish I had some pictures and maybe next time i'll try and get some but it's amazing how bad some of these are.

Oh ya joburnet - I can only guess. I was told that his brother never washed or cleaned the inside of his truck for three years! It was real ripe!

Unfortunately, I know exactly how you felt when you first opened the door of the truck. Amazing transformation! :up

That was very nice of the guy to tell everyone about the job you did. Hopefully, it will lead to many more!

As for price on that job - I did not charge enough. I got $175 for that job, but hopefully it will lead to more details. I estimated it would take me a day to do the work, but I under estimated how much sand and other junk was in the interior. Tomorrow is another day.

This is Rick after he finished detailing the truck:
