Worried about Pro Detailer Process and Looks

Guy's,

I have read tons around here for a year and a half and have leaned a lot and bought a fair amount of products, but I was concerned about detailing my own car because of my lack of ability and knowledge. So, I had a Professional come over to get some swirls out of my paint. The car they worked on was a Black 02 Porsche Carrera.

I am no expert but I swear there are some areas where they marred the finish and they did not get out all of the swirls. They said that the paint was difficult and they did not want to go deeper into the clear coat to get all of the swirls.

My question is did he use the correct polishes? He used an PC 7424 with PB 2.5 then Maguires Machine Glaze, then Maguires #16 by hand.

After all I have learned here, should they have used something like Optimum AFTER the PB 2.5 and before the Glaze?? If I have marring should I use the Optimum that I have and redo the car or did they use all the right stuff and I have tricky paint?

Please advise me if you can?

Thanks,

DJ

I would have thought a professional would have used a rotary. Also, possibly a finer polish such as SSR 1 if he was using Poorboys after the SSR 2.5 and before the glaze. The glaze would have only filled in any micromarring left from SSR 2.5 not permanently get rid of them. Just doesn't seem like a professional.

Keep in mind that although this is my job, I don't do complete swirl removal. I also don't charge for it. However from reading forums at other peoples steps, it seems the process used on the OP's car was lacking. Whether it was because of skill, time, desire or money I don't know. I'm all for you doing it yourself but would suggest a less expensive car to practice polishing on first.

SSR2.5 will mar solid black Porsche paint and needs to be followed with a finer polish before glazing.

I'd go with Optimum Polish with a polishing pad and then with a finishing pad, then you can glaze and wax or just wax.
