With your images, you seem to like the lower part of the image to be empty. With car shots, its almost always best to have it as: (starting from the bottom), car, building/scenary, sky.

What you try to imagin is just put your focal point in a place that is in one of the third's areas.



Here is a example of the way I interpert the rule.

i'm not gonna say you are wrong,,,you're not,,,BUT

some interpret the "rule of 1/3s" as putting your subject matter at the spot of the intersecting lines. your picture with the lines in there is a great example...but put the car or what you want the viewer to notice precisely at the intersecting lines.



It basically also keeps people from putting the subject matter dead center of a picture which tends to bore the audience!!!
