working FOR insurance companies

Does anybody do work for insurance companies? If so do you get a lot of business from them? I have a meeting with an adjuster to give an estimate for a interior detail, I was just wondering if it is a pain in the butt or not to deal with them.

I work with several, on occasion.

Progressive has a 'claim center' closeby, so I get 3-4 a month from them.

They know what they want. They expect it to be done right. They pay right away!

BTW, I'd quote most sedans at $80...

If you are going to do insurance work, I'd make sure you have an extractor and ozone machine. Insurance work could get pretty nasty.

I do some insurance work here and there but up here in my neck of the woods the insurance companies allow the body shops to contract out the "detailing" work for them. This of course leads to the bodyshop wanting a cut of the detail money so the work usually goes to the hackers. The local State Farm claims office calls me directly on anything that is major though because they know no one else will do the job right.

I work with a couple of them and also go through some body shops. It's not a pain to deal with them persay, just expect to work hard and not make top dollar! The plus side, you end up getting clients out of the deal for later and without the middle man!

I went after them a few months ago when I was starting out, but now my book is filling up and I'm phasing myself out of the loop.

I've got too much private owner business to take on anything from an insurance company right now. Some of them take a long time to pay you too. Make sure you and them work out a way to pay you in a reasonable amount of time.
