Took my car to the dealer yesterday for a simple warranty question. They checked something out and as a courtesy before I knew it were washing it for me. Well, I knew they were just trying to be nice but I really have my own way of washing it and I use my own inspected towels. Up to now I had no visible swirls etc. OK...now I do. I looked at the finish when I got home and there were many, not a lot, but many swirls...it wasnt like my wash and dry AT ALL. Ok, question...are swirls there for good? Will my next wash job...BY ME...remove them? If not will my next Waxing...BY ME...remove them? Is my finish imperfect now forever? I do not hold them for it...they were just tryin to be nice...but they really didnt seem to know how to wash and dry it properly.

Washing the vehicle will not remove any swirl marks. And some waxes will hide the swirls, but not remove them. You can get them out but your going to have to get the PC out and take an abrasive to it.

Swirls are really minor scratched in the clearcoat. The only way to remove them is to take a abrasive to the car. This will remove a small (very very small) amount of clearcoat, and the swirls also.

In order to do this you will need a Porter cable 7336sp (lowes for 109) and meguiar's pad. Meg #9 or 3m SMR. Just work the swirl remover in, and the swirls will deminish, until totally gone.

With that, you will have a perfect autioian quality car again!

I emphasize the fact that I do not want my vehicle washed when I make the appointment for service.

I make sure that the service writer types it into the computer under special instructions.

I ask him for the printout that he gives to the tech, then highlight it with a bright colored highlight marker!

Using my P-touch label maker, I make a tag that says "do not wash this vehicle" and attach it to the keys!

I also have a sign that I made on my computer that says do not wash this vehicle. I made a copy, put it in a page protecter and hang it from the rear view mirror so it is visible from both sides.

It hasn't been washed by the dealer yet! :xyxthumbs

I also specifically ask my dealership service advisor to enter into the work order not to wash my car & to park it off to the side when they’re done, away from regular customer parking. Swirl marks are one thing, but door dings are even worse! It's been 8 months and still 100% door ding free.

I have yet to make a label for my keys or a sign to hang on my rear-view mirror yet....but definitely something to consider.

Ok...wish I'd have known all that. They washed it just one time and its filled with swirls under the proper lighting. One wash will do it...right? I will wax it and see if that doesnt get rid of them...I hate to use an abrasive on the paint yet. Is it possible waxing will getem out? I really feel bad...actually the paint looks very nice at 1st glance but if I really put it under inspection then the swirls are there!:( Any suggestions for getting the paint perfect again??? One wash will do it!
