Wood Chip Dust help!

I was home last weekend and stepped into our garage to take my sub out for a drive. I noticed my dad had left the door from his wood shop to the garage wide open. My suburban is COVERED w/ wood chip dust inside and out. I had fully polished the car out about 4 months ago and it's been garaged since.

What should I do? Should I just try to hose as much of it as possible off and then wash it?

don't want to marr the finish, that thing is a ***** to polish out.

Do you have / have access to a leaf blower/compressed air.

This would get most of it, and then external hose water, internal vacuum

Wood dust is a whole lot softer than regular dirt. It's also lighter than water so it floats up. It should wash off easily.

Be sure to rinse off all the chips before using a mitt. Splinters won't get "lost in the nap". They'll stick in the fibers and scratch the finish. You'll have to throw the mitt away too.

took some compressed air to it. Wouldn't budge :(

I've noticed that pine sawdust is sticky because of the resin content. That's why it builds up around the saw. I'm pretty sure you're not going to bug-n-tar the whole car, but if it hasn't had a chance to set, perhaps a strong wash solution will work?

Unless he is using some exotic sticky wood besides s/p/f/ larch cedar etc it will come off no problems.

Your talking saw *dust* as in very fine particulate that floated over there or is it the saw cuttings dust? Like in 1/8" chips? Either one .. no problem.

I use a table saw a lot and it doesn't always get put away pristine .. the dust will come right off even after a couple months.

Even the hose with a nozzle will take off 98% of it .. just hose it hard .. rinse well then wash as normal.

And you just now started the thread?

Allow me to come over right now and smack you with a MF mitt.

I hadn't seen it, I'm about an hour away from my parents house where the car is stored and hadn't gone up there in some time.

I didn't really get a good look over it, I was trying to take the car out real quick but the battery was dead so I took a different one and left it. I'll be up there saturday and will try some water.
