Winter

Well, winter is officially here. Now my truck gets abused for 5 months. I honestly only wash it about a hand full of times through out the winter. It just not worth my time especially because I have a black vehicle. Between the snow and sand the truck gets so dirty that I end up introducing more scratches if I wash it every week. So it is best to not touch it.

Anyone else feeling the winter time blues?:hairpull

I just washed and waxed my car (covered in Collinite), as well as vacuumed out the interior (its usually clean anyways) and covered my floors with plastic dropsheets to keep the salt off in case it slips past the mats.

I'm taking my car to get rust sprayed this Sunday so I should be all winterized. I hate the winter, since my car is pretty much always dirty.. and even when you get it clean, its dirty by the time you get home so its more of a maintenance thing instead of a superficial thing :grrr

:sadpace: Yes, my black car in winter here in Illinois is pretty depressing. Although using QEW last year helped to ease my pain, I still had a dull ache.

I hear ya. I just run through the tunnel wash and come home and use ONR. Now I have a heated garage so I'll probably even wax in the winter. Just can't wash in the garage, no drain and the floor is sloped towards the walls and away from the door.

Yep Im just south of you a bit in the Twin Cities. First snow is projected Monday. I wash about 6 times a winter, its just not worth it otherwise. Come on April!!! Get here quick!!

I feel your pain guys. THis is my first winter with a car I'm really trying to care for. I plan on ONRing in my nonheated garage, and probably a pressure wash from time to time if I can find a place here in LI/NY. Anyone know of any that are open during the winter?

I'm already depressed. Winter is here and I know my car will not look as I like until April at the soonest. We've had about 8 inches of snow this week over several days and the roads are a sloppy mess. One trip and the car is a mess. I'm trying to let go and accept that I have to just let the car get and stay dirty. As others have said, dirty is better than marred. The touchless wash doesn't get the car near clean and the tunnel washes are of course a bad idea.

I keep telling myself that I'll just have to have other winter fun with all the time I'm not spending on my car. In that spirit, I have to say it is gorgeous out. And it feels lighter.

I know what you all mean. I have a warm garage where I can wash and detail, but as soon as i drive anywhere my car is dirty again :-(

Here in the great white north we get our fair share of sand and salt on the roads. With a good winter coat on the car and the use of ONR, Poorboy's S&W, and a touchless wash we can get by.

Winter is here so we can appreciate Spring.

I live north of Chicago and my winter routine is to run the car through a touch less car wash that also rinses the bottom every week or two.

I then bring it home to the garage and do the usual car wash things, like wiping the jams, cleaning and vacuuming the interior, etc. Not as good as a summer wash but it keeps the crud from building up too much.

I hate driving my nice car in the winter. But this year is different, because I bought a winter beater. Its an 89 Honda Civic Hatch STD. I only payed $200 for it and it runs good, but burns a quart of oil every 200 miles. Its so nice to have a car you dont really care about. No more washing my car in the winter only to have it get dirty and salty right away. No more frozen door locks. Whats also cool is if its raining out side, I can leave my Integra in the garage and drive the civic. That way I dont have to wash it every time it rains.

I recommend all you autopians who have to drive in snow and salt to buy a winter beater.

You should invest in some ONR or QEW. Use it after you take it to the touchless. Really gets the film off the car. SAFELY

Believe it or not, my black Corvette is my daily driver, even in the winter! I go insane during this time, seeing all the road salt sticking on my finish. Even if we get a couple of weeks with no snow, I still can't keep the paint clean because of all the salt. It doesn't even stay clean for one minute actually, as soon as I get it washed it gets the dust from the salt all over the paint as soon as I go on the road.

I hate not being able to wash my car in the winter, it's just too cold though. I have a weekly appointment at a detail shop where they give it a good hand wash though. So by the time winter is over with my paint still comes out looking just as good as it did in the fall.
