Winter Detailing

Hey guys. How many of you guys are mobile detailing in the winter? I'm in the midwest, just 30min. west of chicago. It gets pretty cold here in the winter months! What are you guys doing that mobile detail in the winter months? How much slower does it get for you guys in the winter as well? Thanks!

I used to detail in the winter, when I lived in the Northeast. I had use of a heated garage and piping hot water. Normal city water would freeze by the time it hit the paint and the nozzle would freeze up..... that's how cold it would get! Every time I would open the garage door all the heat would escape and any remaining water droplets stuck in the grill or door jam would freeze. As soon as I pulled the car out onto the street it would get salt spray and sand all over it. It was impossible to deliver a car clean. The worst part was the lack of business. Most of my good clients would leave for FL in Sept-Oct. Some winters it got BAD.....very bad. But there is always snow plowing! ....and you can convert the snow plow clients into detail clients as soon as spring hits. I decided to move a few years and now can easily detail year around in FL.

Here in the Mid-Atlantic (Northern Virginia) it does get fairly cold, but usually not too cold you can not work. People do cut back on auto detailing, however, I have built up a good base of people who have me maintain their cars year round. Without them, I would be in a bit of trouble. I also am able to sell some gift certificates around the Holiday season.
