window up / down scratches

Hey all !

I have what looks like light scratches on my side windows of the Z, from use of them going up and down. Anyone know how i can get rid of these ? I hate seeing the car clean and then these on the windows - ruins the look !

thanks.

The only solution I've ever found is to replace the glass :( And find out what was scratching it so it doesn't happen to the *new* glass. One thing is to not put the glass down unless it's clean, which isn't always a practical policy.

Same thing happened on my old Z. A body shop told me its caused by a bad roller or the pad that the window is supported by in the door. It left the same marks on my old IROC and it looked pretty bad because I had the windows tinted and it scratched the tint. I have heard that its very common from GM with the framless wondows circa 80's, early 90's.

I think mine are only on the outside. I have tinted windows as well and i think this makes them more noticable. My tint is not damaged. I am going to take a closer look at it tonight to see how bad they are. I'm hoping to be able to polish most of it out .

IMHO, the scratches come from tiny particles of sand that get between the rubber seal and the glass. When you roll the glass down and/or up, the sand scratches the glass. This has happened on every car I've had, including (SOB!) my 2004 Grand Marq.

I agree with you. But, like I said about the GM problem there were scratches that were pretty evident and were pretty much in the center of the glass running verticle. Mine were on the inside and I believe most are in the inside as the pressure on the glass is leaning in towards the car against that support pad. I believe that support pad has a fuzzy material that the glass glides on. It will wear over time.

Bad rollers or worn out felt on the inside of the door. My Chevy truck has a line running top to bottom from where it drags on the melt inside the door.
