Will waxing over this rock chip be harmful?

I was wondering if waxing over this chip would make it worse. It has stayed the same since the first day it occured so it hasn't been spreading but there is a little loose paint. and would going over the area with wax be enough to actually kind of seal it from further damage? o yeah, someone mentioned that if i followed the crack lines with super glue, it would prevent it from further cracking, is this a good idea?

by looking at the paint in my picture, you guys can see i have swirls in my paint, i was wondering if just go ahead and wax the car after a wash, would these swirls be gone? or is it absolutely necessary to polish before? and what would be the best off the shelves(PEP BOYS) for doing the job? or could i even possible use one of those quick detailer sprays to do the job?

why dont you just get some touch-up paint.. clean out the chip with iso alchohol.. and fill it in

adding a dab of touchup clearcoat will bind everything together, thats what I would do rather than use superglue.

As far as the polishing goes.. the best OTC products that I know of are Color-X and Scratch-X from meguiars. There may be others but I only use professional products, so i really dont know.

can you guys answer some of my other questions like, will simply going over it with wax cover up the swirls? or is it absolutely necessary to polish?

you can use some glazes to hide the swirls if you choose, and some waxes will help to cover them. so technically if you want a temporary fix you can.

but do it right the first time and polish them out

You can get a cleaner type wax, which will fill some of the swirls. I've never heard of superglue on paint, I wouldn't recommend it- it's unlikely to stop any further cracking, and who knows how superglue and paint mix. You can wax over paint chips, it won't hurt it, probably won't help it much either.

You can get away without polishing the swirls out, but you'll be in a never-ending cycle if you just try to use a glaze and fill it. Do it the right way- polish it out, and it'll look a lot better.

Will waxing it make it worse? No

Will it help protect it (although slightly) Yes

Super glue? NO

Either repair it properly or wax over it and try to forget about it. You know it's there so it will always be noticeable even if well disguised......to you anyway.

candy eg- The only way to really eliminate/diminish the marring is to abrasively polish it. If you just wax it probably won't hide much of it. If you glaze and then wax it'll come back. I'd get the Scratch-X or something similar and try to improve it a bit and *then* apply the wax. The detail sprays won't be of any help with this.

The chips oughta stay about the way they are if you ignore them. I have chips on the hood of my Jag that happened 20 years ago this August, and they haven't gotten any worse. The loose paint migh flake off but at some point all the compromised paint will be gone and the surrounding "healthy" paint will stay put. FWIW the Jag also has some cracks in its paint and those haven't gotten worse either. Don't put superglue on your paint.
